Sunday 6th July 2008

Bit of organising to do, hot and my jaw hurts which comes as no surprise.
Still need to fix up my KL connection and the rest of my list.
Really not feeling up to socialising at the Sunday Night Fund Raiser.
Will see how I go.
Later, try to ring Captain Mark to cancel but couldn’t get through so ring Pacific Resort direct. Think I my have left out the 0 with Captain Mark on reflection.
See my house keeper, she is hard to catch and always seems to do my room only when I’m out no matter what time I’m absent. She gets a good tip and is very happy.
CathyP just rang to invite me to dinner, thanks Cathy but I don’t think I’ll be able to make it to Krabi not being on top of my game today, and Krabi being only 300 Kilometres away.
So that’s two social occasions turned down in one day.
Her call was actually more an “enjoy the rest of your trip” so thanks for that.

Trying to limit the pain killers.

Not much to do today, it’s very hot.
Email Cindy my KL connection and I’m organised.
Have to be up at 05.30 so an early dinner at Lobster and Prawn “No view, but great taste” gotta love a marketing tag like that, and it’s all true. Wood fired pizza is very good.
Two years ago my brother had to search for an optometrist, now they are like Starbucks.

Tuesday 8th July 2008

Up early for 07.00 pick up, turn in the key and off to brekkie while they make up my huge mini bar bill, what is 10 bottles of water at 20 baht each and a couple of beers. About, not much.
06.55 have finished my check out and hunt for my driver among the day tripper mini vans.
07.10 ask the Bell Boy where is my driver?
Pulls out his mobile, natter, natter, natter, “He come now, last night stay out late drink too much whiskey” laughs. Oh great.
07.20 Up comes a vey fast moving car and we are away. Swerve around this and that but not terribly out of order for Thailand.
Did I mention he looks like what you would expect for someone woken 10 minutes ago from a big night out.
Zoom zoom.
Screech into a petrol station and he bolts for the dunny leaving the car door open, engine running and a very confused attendant at pump number 6.
Why he didn’t just leave his 100 Baht with me for the petrol is beyond me, could have saved 5 minutes, I fill, he empties, it all just makes sense.
Now he is even pushing it for a Thai, thankfully we start hitting traffic lights.
It gives me the opportunity to unclench my already sore jaw once in a while.
Unfortunately after TESCO there is not much in the way of traffic control, it is drizzling and he is swerving and tailgating at 110 klms. Did I say he just indicates and changes lane moments before impact with the car in front. I’ll leave out the bit with the bus because even though I’ve spent some time in S.E.A. and had some bus run ins, never at 140 klms an hour.
As far as I know scooter loses to car, car loses to bus or truck, it’s all there in the Thai traffic regulations page 1.
Nearly soiled my travel pants but that’s okay, have spares in my day pack and I am alive.
Happy that the sign posts say we’re getting closer to the airport, but unhappy that these signs are ticking down so bloody fast.
And no he doesn’t speak English and as far as he is concerned hr is getting me to the airport dead on time. Take that as you please.
So we get there, he leaps out and hurriedly chucks my bag on the curb with a look of hung over triumph on his face.
I pick up bag, nerves and flee.

Off to KL

Have a row to myself, no immigration form, just walk up and stamp, easy.
Get a SMS from Cindy to meet her at G7, bugger, I’ve just come from G8 and already gone through immigration. Ring her, G7 is an exit door after baggage, love the mobile.
She gives me a tour past all the government buildings and the biggest mosque I’ve ever seen.
Park outside town and ride the monorail for lunch with the locals and then walk to Petronas towers for a chilled beverage. Cindy gets me to Sentral monorail station for my connection, the Malay queue in a very orderly fashion.
KLIA from Sentral to the airport is a dream. 28 minutes, clean on board toilets, smooth ride and news panels to give you something to do.
Shower and change at the airport hotel near C8 for 20 ringgit. Worth every bit.
Won’t discuss service on Malaysian but now home safe and a bit tired.

Okay, a bit whingy this time, but the dentists, who were very good took the edge off my humour.

I still enjoyed it, but I wasn’t there for a holiday.
