hey look... mountains!hey look... mountains!hey look... mountains!

if you can see through the smog there are really impressive mountains peeking out of the clouds.... its really surreal to see in person.
(SORRY FOR THE LAG TIME IN UPDATES... BUT I HAVE INTERNET ON MY LAPTOP NOW SO I'LL TRY TO GET THE BLOG CAUGHT UP!)

After some of the students were sent off with their families and a few more were put on busses, those of us who remained went to lunch at a chinese restaurant around the corner. After that we went back to the YFU Chile headquarters and I think a few more were sent off to busses at that point, then we went to drive around Santiago with some volunteers. There was a ton of traffic because its the end of winter break down here and everyone was out at the Zoo in Santiago I guess.... when we finally got through, we went up this little mountain-hill thing that is the highest point in Santiago and has a great view.

After that we went back to headquarters again and had some snacks and pizza. We started a movie after pizza but gradually people trickled out to get their busses, until at the end of the movie it was just six of us for the latest bus and the four or five that were going to take planes
Traditional Chilean..... Chinese Food?Traditional Chilean..... Chinese Food?Traditional Chilean..... Chinese Food?

this is the restaurant we went to for lunch
the next morning. We bought some snacks at the bus station and then caught an 11 o’clock night bus that was actually really nice... reclining super-comfy seats and snacks and breakfast served during the trip.

that's Reins, and I'm sitting on the ground with a street dog which is why the shot is looking up... Shortly after this photo was taken another street dog came up, climbed into my lap and tipped me over... and one of the girls got a great picture of me mid-fall but i don't remember who.

Statue of Lion and Angel
I didn't think the statue sounded like Roman mythology – they don't really do angels – and I couldn't find any likely hits when I started googling mythology and whatnot... but Mom started googling the statue itself, and came up with this page: http://gosouthamerica.about.com/library/blfisk15kmhistoria42.htm (for English speakers, there's a translation of the important bits at the bottom – the second paragraph below the photo) Tam, you might be interested to know that while the above page was the first thing that came up with a search of "lion angel statue santiago chile," the second was your blog.

For those who don't want to go to the web page, this is the story of the angel and lion statue: The monument to Italian-Chilean friendship, in the Plaza Italia, dates from 1910. The work of Italian sculptor Roberto Negri, the statue of an angel on foot lifts a torch symbolising the future, the lion represents the Chilean people breaking the chains to achieve independence.
