Great to see all your messages - it was lovely when we checked in to our blog today. So the update - well, Beijing was fine. No great dramas and of course we were staying in pukka accommodation thanks to the Cathay Pacific rate! Went out to see the Bird's Nest all ready for the Olympics. Also stocked up on some tinned food for our three day epic yet to come! Mum and Dad - we had dinner at Morel's! It was lovely - the kids wished you could have been there. Didn't catch up with Sally Lean - she's up to her ears in Aussie Olympics I think.
The train from China to Mongolia was good - not quite as smart as the Hong Kong Beijing train but pretty good. The dining car was pretty grim but we're maybe too fussy! Anyway we stayed on for the bogey change which is a bit train spotterish but saved us 4 hours sitting on the platform instead.
Ulaanbaatar is not particularly brill but we stayed just over an hour away at Elstei Ger Camp which was stunning. We rode every day and were all cantering across the open steppe. I have to say we are all suffering from aches and pains - Ailsa from the saddle rubbing and Catriona and I from the bouncy trot! Beth seems to have fared the best - those riding lessons paid off!
Not sure how we'll manage with photos this time but if not we're on the train to Irkutsk tonight. For all our wonderful first aid kit we omitted the one thing we've needed ...laxatives. Oh joys!
