The bombing site of Alfred Murrah Federal building, Oklahoma City.
Our third leg of Savanna Studio 2001 began in Oklahoma City, after a long drive from Iowa. With our mind set of traveling south, we were surprised to find out that Oklahoma City was almost as cold as Iowa. Some of us didn't care, upon our arrival in our hotel around 9 pm, we were changing into our swimming suits and jumped into the hotel's outdoor swimming pool, which turned out to be so cold. For a couple of seconds after jumping, I couldn't decide whether the water was very hot or very cold; I felt like thousands of needles piercing through my skin.

The highligh of Oklahoma City was the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, where a bomb blasted in 1995, killing 168 people including many children. There were some quiet moments within our midst, especially after the New York attack back in September. A new memorial pile for New York and Washington victims was defined by piles of flowes and cards, adding the already mellow memorial of Oklahoma City victims. I managed to pick the site for my next collage project here.

Unfortunately the city life was over, as we were heading off to Sulphur, OK, the entrance of Chickasaw NP.

To cleanse the site.
It was particularly memorable for our scavanging adventure through the town during the Halloween night, with a deep consideration amongst six of us in reviving an old bath tub laying in a deserted lawn for Emmaly's collection project. As a class, we went to a catfish restaurant, which was the first eating catfish experience for most of us.

Chickasaw NP is famous for its geological features, which mostly in form of mineral springs and rivers. Supposedly sulphur is good for your skin and serves as a fountain of youth, but it stinks as hell. At first, we were extremely excited to have a sip or two of the sulphur water fresh off a thermal fountain, but as soon as we stepped out the vans, the egg rotten aroma started to fill in our nostrils, which was a big turn off to taste anything especially with the sulphur content in it.
