3rd July 2008
We left Guelph around 9am to go to the Ramada Inn in Leamington. This was a 3 hour drive from Guelph. The main reason was to visit Pelee Point, the secondary reason was to get us closer to Detroit from where we fly across America.
Pelee Point National Park is the Southernmost point in Ontario and as we had visited the northern most point of Southern Ontario it seemed a good idea to compare the two. Pelee point is on the 42nd paralell the same as Portugal. The natural vegetation is Carolinian forest which is made up of broad leaf deciduous trees unlike the conifer forest of the north. The flora and fauna is different again. There are huge butterflies and colourful birds and lovely waterlilies on the swampy areas. The “tip” as it's called, is a National Park that has been reclaimed after it became polluted by the development nearby. Most of Ontario's population live in the South.
We had lunch in Leamington and then checked into our hotel before driving to the tip car park for the shuttle ride to the very tip. This a sandbar that in recent years has been washing away but is
now beginning to grow out again.

This has got to be a first we took dad to the 'tip' and he didn't bring anything back!! However I found a Canadian flag and we all, apart from dad, brought back many bug bites!! Neal I hope you appreciate the fact we drove 456km to get to Pelee Point and pose in a P shape for Peele and a N shape for Neal. We love you Neeeeeeeal!!
Mum wants me to tell you all we saw a rare fox snake, that I thought was dead, Dad saw it swimming and mum was jumping about it to get a photograph!!! We also went to the wet lands marsh area to look for turtles, frogs, birds and water lillies, Gran you would have loved it, hope you like the photos.
