Gijon Point BreakGijon Point BreakGijon Point Break

Another classic sunset session...all to myself.
We pulled into a camping site in Gijon on June 18th. Our camp site overlooked the sea and that evening we had sloppy joe's on the bbq and watched a new swell roll in. We stayed here for two nights just bummin around and taking day trips to nearby towns. We found this old abandoned pier and jumped off of it into the ocean. On the second evening I surfed a point break on the edge of the town beach. No one else out, just me and the sea monsters.

From Gijon, we drove to La Coruna, which is one of the largest port cities of Spain. On the way, we found another great surf break off the side of the highway. We hung out at this beach for the afternoon, swimming, surfing and snorkelling.

In La Coruna, we really let loose and had a great weekend of partying. Our spanish has improved a great deal, and now we are meeting lots of the local talent. None of the bars started getting busy until 12am and we didn't get to sleep until 8:30am. That morning Dan and I had gin and tonics for breakfast before sleeping the entire day

away. Please send a new liver...I can't keep up to these Aussies.

In an attempt to recover from the night life, we decided to continue travelling. We drove to Finisterre, the most western point of Spain, and camped on a logging road. Along the way, we happened to drive past a donkey. Naturally we turned around to stop and chat with the owner Juan, who was more than happy to let us have our picture taken with the donkey named "Donkey". Within a few minutes Juan insisted that I mount the donkey. Good times!!

Afterwards, I surfed this crazy shore break with huge kelp beds in the water and fish jumping everywhere. I suspected more sea monsters... so it was a short surf! Later in the evening, while trying to gain altitude up the logging road to a view point for the sunset, we got the van stuck on a rock. The undercarriage got ripped right off, but Lucy is still going strong. We managed to get to the top by foot, where we were rewarded with an amzing view well worth the damage incurred.

And the adventure continues...
