Grizzly mom and cub
We stopped at the West Thumb Geyser basin to admire the view of the lake. We spoke with a ranger who said there were grizzlies in the area, but most likely had headed away from the crowds. As we were leaving the parking area, Kerry spotted a grizzly mom with her yearling cub. We got to see them really close (as close as I want to get to them, anyway.) What a thrill!
The drive along West Thumb and then Yellowstone Lake was breathtaking with the blue water, clear skies and snowy mountains in the distance.
At Sulphur Caldron we saw buffalo lying down in the white residue from the caldron with the steam all around them. The smell was unpleasant to us, but obviously didn't bother the buffalo.
Hayden Valley was full of wildflowers and we saw a gray wolf running up the hillside. Another thrill.
After dropping the camper at our campsite in Canyon Village (which still has snow,) we went to the Brink of the Upper Falls, which is an overlook at the top of the falls. Then to another overlook of the Upper Falls. What power in that water. Then to Artists

Point, which looks up to the falls through the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, another gorgeous place.
From there we headed north to the Tower/Roosevelt area. We saw 2 bull elk, one of which was lying in the shade ignoring all the people taking his picture. He was magnificent! We saw more bison, which are plentiful in the park, a female elk, and some of the most amazing vistas I've ever seen.
What a day! Sensory overload!
