What can I say but, "WOW!!!" We've just had 3 days of SCUBA diving. We did a total of 7 dives. 4 of the dives were for Open Water Certification and 3 were "Adventure Dives."

We had one fellow student in our class named Veronika, from Germany. Our supervising instructor was Stiofan, born in Derry City, Ireland, our dive instructor was Claire from London England, and our dive master in training was Jesus from Venezuela. So many things to describe...doing the training, 5 sections in class out of books, and 5 sections in the pool with equipment. Then we wrote our final exams 2 days ago in the morning. We BOTH passed! 😊 We jumped on the boat around noon, and we were underwater in the ocean by 1pm! Pictures can't describe the flying sensation we felt while descending down underwater. The water was 30 degrees C, we could see 30 meters in all directions, and staring down to the busy bottom as well. Seeing was one thing. Then we were ON THE BOTTOM!!

We swam around with all the fishes and things!! It was incredible. We did two more dives the next morning as well! We are now Certified Open Water SCUBA Divers!

That night (last night) we did a night dive.....it was amazing. SO dark, but so vivid. We rode the boat out watching the sunset and then jumped in right when it was dark...well, dark except for all the stars and crescent moon above...in the middle of the ocean!!

Then we descended into the water, flash lights on. All one could see was what the flashlight showed...and we could see each other's lights. There was me, Jeff, Dive Instructor) and Jesus (our Venezuelan Dive Master in Training). We saw many things differently at night. We saw a TURTLE!

We just got out of the water from our 2 morning Adventure Dives! We went to 30 meters deep on our first one (Deep Dive) and each of us did a different thing for our second dive. Jeff did underwater photography (obviously!) and I did Fish ID. We learned tons, had a blast (just Stiofan and the two of us!) and are coming back here asap! WOW!!

We'll try to post the video of us swimming (flying) through an underwater arch as well...so cool!!

We're catching a boat to Koh Samui for a night, then to Bangkok the next morning where Jeff is doing a masterclass. Next day HOME! (California home...mom is picking us up and we can't wait for an "In 'n Out" burger...animal style of course!

Much love,
Nina (and Jeff)
