Nice evening setting
Over the bridge near Trestevere After arriving at Termini station, we hopped in a taxi that took us around some narrow streets and finally dropped us off at our apartment. We stayed in a region called Trastavere. There was so many restaurants around, it reminded me more of Lygon St, just on a bigger scale. The first major thing we saw was Vatican City as part of a tour. Not knowing much about art, it certainly helped having an explanation of some of those famous paintings and sculptures. The Sistine Chapel was impressive and I can see why Leonardo Da Vinci was so annoyed when he realised the task that lay ahead.
The next day we went on another tour. This time to the Roman Forum and the Colloseum. It was about 35 degrees so it was tough going out in the sun all day but it was worth it. The Colloseum provided us with some shade and a chance to take in some amazing history.
Oh yeah, we saw some other stuff too... The Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain. There was famous stuff everywhere. They even had an ancient ruin occupied by 300 stray cats. Not many cities can boast they have one
Trastevere
Streets where we were staying in Rome of those..
It was good to see Rome but it was also some relief getting away from the big smoke and up to La Spezia where the Italian coast and little village towns awaited us. Unfortunately, the time and weather weren't on our side as it rained a bit and we only had three hours of daylight to see the Cinque Terra. We saw some great views and wished we could spend a bit more time there.
We packed our bags again and almost missed our train to Nice. Our adventures in Italy had had come to an end. By this stage, we were pretty sick of pizzas, pastas and paninis anyway, so was glad to see what France had to offer..
This blog was written by Adrian except for the part about food which was by me.
