I am writing the blog again because Starla is currently getting a well deserved pedicure at the spa here at the Sarova Mara.

We left Maua to head to the Masai Mara on Wednesday. It was very sad to say bye to everyone, and we hope that we get another chance to come again. All the Kenyans said that they won’t say goodbye because they know that we’ll be back. I’ve even had an invitation to teach at Kenya Methodist University in Meru. I felt very honored! They said that Starla and I have been a huge blessing to them and that they cannot believe all that we have been able to accomplish in a 40 day period. The funny thing was we figured it out and we were in Maua for exactly 40 days; a good Biblical number.

We arrived at the Mara at 3:45pm on Wednesday. We had to take a much smaller plane than the St. Peters group took last time. This is because the tourism is down, but thankfully for Kenya it is beginning to pick up again. We immediately began our safari with a 2 hour game drive from the airstrip. (Actually, the safari began for us when we noticed that 5 zebras were standing on the airstrip and nearly missed the plane as they ran off!) Almost immediately we saw a herd of elephants. We also saw something I did not see last time, a leopard. It was very nice.

Starla was in amazement when she arrived at the Sarova. For those of you who were here in 2005 you know how nice the place is. For those of you who haven’t all I can say is that after a long game drive they hand you a cool towel soaked in eucalyptus water as you step out of your vehicle. It is very nice ? We are very happy to be celebrating a belated 5th anniversary here. The food, relaxation, animals, and our driver Peter have been wonderful.

Today we went out twice. We were very blessed to find 13 lions and their cubs sleeping under a tree. We were the only ones there to see it. It was a great experience. We got a picture of the two of us using the huge tripod that I brought with us. Starla tried to talk me out of bringing it, but I knew it would come in handy. We will write again soon. Thanks again to everyone who helped to make this mission trip possible for us. Both the Methodist Church of Kenyan of the Nyambene Synod and Maua Methodist hospital have felt very blessed because of it. So have we!
