I am so tired right now and not sure why I am awake and have already done a load of laundry. We went out to a club last night and we got home around 4am...I woke up at 9am.
The past few days have been somewhat interesting, if you'd like to call it that. On Friday there was a transportation strike. Not sure what it was all about, but the metro and some bus lines closed from 8:30am until noon. Of course the bus I needed to take to get to school was one of the bus lines on strike. It was seriously so hot on Friday too, so I was not feeling like walking across the city to get to class. I decided to try taking another bus. After an hour and a half I arrived at my class. It normally takes me about 15-20 mins. After class Heather and I decided to go see Mirko. Yeah, he had some girl there talking to him, and they looked quite friendly. We decided to just play it cool and ask if he knew of any Mexican restaurants in Rome instead of asking him to go out with us on Friday night like we originally planned on doing 😞
We then needed to go to the opposite side of the city to check out an apartment. Yes, we need to move AGAIN. This better be the last time. I'm getting tired of it. We were late meeting the lady because the stupid buses and all the extra traffic that was being created because of lack of bus service. After seeing the apartment we decided to go home. On the way we stopped to see the waiter friend I made over by our old apartment. He was talking to some shady guy who I later came to find out was some guy that Heather's friend knows. I still am baffled as to how small this world can seem sometimes. I've only been in Rome for like 6 weeks. And it seems that everyone is connected somehow. I mean I really don't know that many people in this city, but sometimes it almost seems like I do. But yeah, that apartment was really nice. But there is no way we could have 4 people in there. The one bed was seriously in the entryway. It was a nice entryway, but still. Oh, and there was a microfridge. How are 4 of us supposed to use a microfridge? Gonna keep looking I guess.
Yesterday it was really hot here in Rome. So, Heather, Thea and I decided it would be a nice beach day. Be jealous, very jealous...I have an awesome tan now and it's only the second weekend in May. Last night we pretended to be real Romans and we didn't go out for the night until pretty much 12:30am. Now let me tell you how much of a struggle this was for me. I'm usually sleeping by that time of night. If it hadn't of been for the cup of coffee at 10:30pm, I would have been sleeping for sure. So we went to this club called Coyote. It's pretty nice that the strip of clubs is only like a 10 minute walk from our apartment. Very convenient. We got in to the club for free since we are girls. Not a bad concept if I may say so. Except once we were in, drinks were 8 euro each. In US Dollars, that is $12. Heather and I decided we would be as economical as possible and opted for the strongest drink...Long Island Iced Tea. Hey, if you're paying that much for a drink it should be worth it right? It was better that paying $7.50 for a Budweiser. It was kind of odd, but once again we get to the club and out of the 4 million people in this city 3 of the 10 people I probably know were at this club. One was a teacher at the school we had our TEFL program, and another was our landlord. Ok, when I say landlord don't think of a balding overweight 50 year old man. Our landlord is Davide, who is a young 30 year old pretty good looking guy. He's actually really nice and even drove our luggage from the metro station to the apartment for us last weekend. So, it was nice to see him there. He's always trying to get us to go out anyway. It was just funny that we all picked the same bar last night.
Roma is playing in another soccer game in about 3 hours. So, I decided to come to the cafe early today so I don't sit here like a big computer geek while all the guys pile in to watch the game. Speaking of soccer...it's getting pretty exciting now. Roma is playing Inter Milan on the 24th here in Rome at Stadio Olympico for the Coppa Italia. It's going to be crazy. I can't wait!
I wonder if they're looking to hire anyone at this bar. I'm here often enough and they all know me now. I'm quickly becoming a "regular". And then I'll move once again and will have to find a new spot to go all the time. At least I'm learning the city well with all this moving around.
Hopefully all of you are doing well back home. Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there. Talk to you soon!
