Red Pepper River Lodge
looking up from the river We spent the last 5 days or so back in Gonubie, a little ocean town just shy of East London, where we met up with David and Liesel, whose father, Andre Dewet, and his wife, Coleen, own the Red Pepper River Lodge, a killer bed and breakfast that recently received the only 5-star rating in East London. Needless to say, accomodations were amazing.
The Red pepper River Lodge is a massive, bright red house, with a white door that is about a hundred feet high. As you enter, you are drawn to the back of the house, and to the terrace with amazing views of the Gonubie River and it's entrace into the Indian Ocean. Aside from the stunning views, the Red Pepper River Lodge also has a soundproof theater stocked with movies, lots of sports channels, and some of the most comfortable chairs I've ever sat on. The rooms were fantastic, with huge flat screen tv's, internet connections, and beds that were made for sleeping well into the morning. The jacuzzi was perfect, as was the fully stocked bar lookign out over the river. It is a wonderful place, and we spent the week going to the beach, paddling

Every good swimming pool needs a good view on the river, and enjoying the views. Andre and Colleen are two very special people, and truly gracious hosts, who welcomed us into their home and made our stay something to remember.
The night before my birthday, Andre and Colleen made a huge braai for all of us, and it was fantastic, along with David's expertly grilled prawns. After we were finished eating, the most amazing cake I have ever seen was brought out and everyone sang happy birthday. Liesel and Andre's creation was something I will never forget -- a chocolate cake with green and blue frosting in the shape of an island with little gummy people on chairs sunbathing or under umbrellas with pretzel beers, gummy people swimming and surfing around a shark fin, people on a licorice raft, marshmallow palm trees, caramel rocks, chocolate shells, and to top it all off, a Brazilian and Mexican flag (two countries we will soon visit).
The next day, Liesel, David, and Liesel's mom, Marie, took us out to lunch in Chintsa East to Michaela's. We ate delicious seafood while looking out at the sea. It was a birthday and a week I will never forget. The only thing
