Oh Canada! Our home and native land!
What a great feeling to be back on home soil. It is amazing to go away to so many different countries and be put in a situation where you are basically lost all the time, and end here in Canada. We had some scavenges to do here and when we went to the subway station, you never had to ask people for help. You could just look confused and someone would come up and ask if you needed help.
Once again, we waited for the scavenge list to figure out where we were going to go for lunch. We decided to head to this little French pastry place that was really great. We took the subway, but still ended up walking about 3 km from the station to get there. We got there and got a table and the food was delicious. As we were there, we started chatting with a couple beside us. We were telling them about our trip. On the Toronto leg we were not allowed to take taxis and we mentioned the walk we did to get there. They were so nice and asked if we
could take a ride from someone and wanted to drop us off somewhere. We thought it was so nice and they took us to the Distillery District were we wandered around some of the shops and bought some chocolate from a chocolate factory.
After that we decided to head downtown. We found a bus station with a couple of ladies standing there. We asked them where they were going and decided to follow them because their destination sounded good. When we got of the bus we happened to be standing in front of the hockey hall of fame. Needless to say, I got up close and personal with the Stanley cup.
Following that we decided to go the Royal Ontario Museum. It was really fun considering one floor of the exhibits included Greece and Egypt. While in the Greece section we commented, “Oh look, a Grecian museum that is open! What a novel idea!” Another thing that we noticed is that North American museums really go out of their way to make museums interactive and child friendly. While at the Egyptian museum, there were amazing things to see but so much was not labeled that you didn’t really
know what you were looking at.
After the museum we headed to the CN Tower for the wrap up event. Mom and I fought a hard race, but one other team beat us out for dead last. Yes, that is right; we came 12th out of 13 teams. The winning team beat the pants off everyone and there was no surprise. All of the teams that competed in the event were really great. Even though we placed so low in ‘the game,’ we had an amazing adventure, we enjoyed the challenges we faced and we didn’t cheat. I would not change a thing about how we played the game and I am very proud of myself and my mother for following through with everything. This really was a marathon of an adventure. As a recap - we started in San Francisco and traveled to Beijing, Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal, Bahrain, Egypt, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Amsterdam, and ending the event in Toronto - all in 23 days! We have had Elephant rides, camel parades, and train rides from hell. We have laughed so much that our side have hurt and never wanted to cry. We have seen the sight of the
2008 Olympics, a Malaysian rainforest, a Nepalese national reserve, the pyramids of Egypt, the Acropolis, Dracula’s castle and the pot capital of the world (aside from BC).
Having said all of that, boy! I am excited to come home! I have really missed everyone and can’t wait to share some tales in person and see you all!
Home in just a few hours
Xoxoxo
