We left Verona yesterday morning and took a 1 1/2 hour train to Venice. Nate and I did some talking and realized we would have to make a couple of sacrifices to our schedule to please the budget and timetable we are trying to adhere to. Unfortunately, Venice had to be a part of that sacrifice. That means instead of spending the 2 or 3 days as we originally scheduled, we ended up with 6 hours to do the reader's digest version of Venice. We walked from the train station to San Marco square (I think that's what it was called...correct me if I'm wrong), which Nate's mom told us was a must do. We basically spent the entire day map-less just getting lost amongst the canals and bridges. Venice is a gorgeous town and the gondolas seem to come straight from a story book. The men wear the striped shirts and hats with the red ribbon around the brim. Of course Venice also seemed like an expensive tourist trap. Every other person seemed to have just stepped off their yacht and they were there for tea which probably cost 100 Euros. I think it's just difficult to fully appreciate a city that is expensive when you're a broke student...

We left Venice around 10pm to head to Dubruvnik, Croatia. Our first train was from Venice to Zagreb and we sat next to the craziest man. He was a Korean overweight middle aged man who spoke no English and we would find out later, no Croat (Croat?) or Italian either. He came in a few stops after Nate and I and made us stop our game of cards so he could sit in his assigned seat. He then proceeded to turn off the lights, adjust the heat and make himself at home. And then after an hour, the real show started. This man snored louder than anyone. Ever. He would snore so loud he'd wake himself up. Nate video taped him and I just laughed...for hours. Finally around 1am we were getting quite annoyed...that's when the snoring stopped and the other bodily functions began (Gram I won't say the word just because I know you hate it). Let's just say Mr. Fun Killer Man (as we dubbed him) was the worst person to be stuck next to for an 8 hour journey.

Okay, I just typed out the rest of this blog and lost it with my internet connection. I'm too tired and frustrated to re-type but just know that we safely made it to Dubruvnik and we will be here for the next couple of days. I will blog again soon with more details of our journey and our arrival to Croatia! xo Meg
