Ross & David Livingstone
So we are now in Livingstone, so-called after David the Scottish guy. There's a statue of him and everything.

We went to Victoria Falls yesterday which was amazing - it's one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, apparently (I'm so going to win pub quizzes and trivial pursuit when I get back). You get soaked when walking across a bridge so Ross and I donned our "emergency ponchos" which made us look like demented American tourists. We didn't get wet though, so it didn't matter. I don't think I can really describe the Falls here - when I finally work out how to upload photos I'll put some on.

We stayed in a hostel called Fawlty Towers for the last 2 nights. I was slightly disappointed when the staff turned out to be helpful and nice. I preferred this place to the last one: for one thing, the showers worked properly. We met a few people who were quite chatty. One girl is in the American peace corps - not sure exactly what that involves; my only reference to it is that Baby in Dirty Dancing was planning to join. Obviously that was before she met Johnny...

Originally called the "Smoke that Thunders". See, I do know stuff.
but anyway, I digress.

We have now joined our tour group. There are 20 of us travelling from here to Cape Town over the next 3 weeks. We haven't met everyone properly yet as we don't head off until tomorrow. We go to Botswana and then Namibia before arriving in Cape Town on around 12 May.

One other thing I should mention is the fact that yes, it is my 30th birthday today. I actually care a lot less than I thought I would. Maybe it's the eternal sunshine and the fact I don't have a job. To the people who thought it would be funny to pay for me to do the highest bungee jump in the world - that was hilarious. Thanks for that lovely birthday surprise this morning. (To those of you who don't really know me that well, that is sarcasm.) Some random guy from Ipswich who spoke with an Australian accent (why?) seemed to find the whole scenario very entertaining.

Anyway, it's 300 Kwatcha a minute to use this (that isn't actually much but it sounds impressive) so I'm going to go.

Favourite quote: from a guy on our tour who's just turned 19 to me - "do you even remember what you did on your 18th birthday?"

Spider count: too many to mention. There was one hanging over my head when I woke up this morning. I'm still recovering.

Bye

Happy 30th Birthday! Can't believe you are spending it another country far far away, beats my 2 and a quarter hours to drive 40 miles to work this morning! Anyway, appologies for being a really bad friend, I forgot to post the phone to you! If it's not too late I did think I could send it to Louise for her to bring with her. Let me have her address if that's any use to you. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Rachxxx

Happy Birthday!
Hey kerry - Happy birthday. It's a big one. Sorry I'm a bit late, Rachel only recently showed me this and I thought I had lost the link. You have some amazing pictures, looks like you're having a brilliant time. You seem to have coped well with the perils of Africa, I'm sure that by the time you come home you'll be an Indiana Jones type, phased by nothing and sneering about "hating snakes".....
