But Trent looks so hungry...
Let's see... Happy 21st Katy! Hope you had a good birthday weekend. More on that later; here's the week in review.

MONDAY: Philosophy was canceled today. Evidently Phil was too sick to come to class, however none of us knew it because we don't get a chance to check our email in the middle of the day. Basically, we (about 100 of us) showed up, and then some girl who got wireless checked her email and made an announcement that Philosophy was canceled that day. I went back to my room and did some work for a while before heading off to Philosophy tut, not looking forward to the prospect of makeup philosophy class late Wednesday night.

TUESDAY: Early genetics, decided that the lecturer for this series is a bit boring; she's not excited about what she's teaching (or if she is, she hides it very well) and it makes paying attention difficult if she drones on. Ah well. Religion later this morning is fun (as it always is! Love that class; Dr. Farley is wonderful fun and the topic is fascinating). An interesting class on The Assassins, the Knights Templar and the Knights Hospitaller. Very interesting beginnings for

According to Katy, it's really a DEATHBIRD
all the three... evidently to be an assassin you had to be good-looking, of good moral character (but you killed people!), and were held to strict behavioral and moral standards (but you killed people! Very confusing). All three are very different historically and were heaps of fun to learn about. ^__^ (Yes, Miles, she did bring up the Assassins video-game too). We then had MARS--I've determined that the lecturer for this sequence is awful boring as well; he basically puts the slides up and reads them off, and asks us if we want more time to copy what's written on the slides. However, the topic was about the toxic and venomous marine creatures of Oz, complete with photos of the nasties and some of the harm they have caused to folks. Eww. Remind me not to tangle with those--nasty outcomes usually. Sounded quite painful as well.

WEDNESDAY: Art lecture this morning; the professor is back (last week she was out and we had had a guest speaker, who was sort of annoying, and a tour of the Freyer Library, which was really cool). We had another lecture about Urban Aboriginal art, which was OK. Lots of it is rather angry and sort of seems cliche, but some was really quite nice. Then another MARS lecture from the boring fellow's friend about deep-sea life (which he totally killed; life down there is super fantastically cool, and it was completely rushed and ruined. >__< Boo).

THURSDAY: Woke up early for a review tut for the Genetics exam this weekend. It was useful, and there weren't too many folks there. Mostly I just like to go and listen to others ask their questions, being a 'tut tourist,' as the prof calls it. It's true, but I think I absorb lots just by sitting there. Came back for IH lunch and then zoomed off to MARS. However, we were all sitting there and then someone made the point that it was about 5 minutes after lecture was supposed to have started (the profs are always there early to set up), and that the first field trip to Heron Island had left on Wed. night. We waited around a little longer and then went home early. I came back to my room and did some work, and then met Nell at the bus stop to Indro at 2:30. We caught the bus to

the shopping center and got Katy some gifts for her birthday as well as a pile of food for a picnic on Saturday. We ended up getting Katy a nice teeshirt, some earrings and an earring box for not too much from various shops around the mall. Food shopping in Wooly's made me more than a little happy; Nell bought me a passionfruit (I was completely fascinated with the fruits--dragonfruit, paw paw, this thing that looked like a tree had grown around an echidna and was spiky, passionfruit, and more...). We caught the 7:40 bus back and completely collapsed that night. I really am not a shopping fan, but I think Nell and I did a good job and we got a good bargain for what we got, especially considering it was technically split between myself, Nell and Trent.

FRIDAY: I got up early to help Nell and Trent wake Katy up early (7 AM) on her birthday. This involved blowing up balloons and putting a banner on her door. It was very early and we were all very tired; there are some priceless photos of the lot of us (including a very attractive one of me which is

flipping hilarious) and Katy on her birthday day. Got ready for class--Genetics again, and then lab. Lab today was in the computer lab, as it was last week, and involved paperwork rather than actual labwork. Although it sounds boring it really wasn't that bad, and work is much more enjoyable (not to mention faster and more accurate) with a partner. Alicia and I cranked through the lab and were done early (yaaay!). I went back to IH, chatted with Nell, Trent and Katy some, and then went back to my room to do homework. I finished preparing my lab to hand in next Friday (I basically need to photocopy the thing from my lab notebook and hand it in)--yay for getting things done early! I then regrouped with Nell, Trent and Katy (as well as some of Katy's other friends from the Washington University in St. Louis) and we went out for Japanese at the Vill (the collection of cafes, hair salons and a grocery store about 10 minutes walk from IH). The food was OK, I wouldn't go back to where we ate. Walked back to IH and people ran off; they were going out to one of the local clubs later and I wasn't--Genetics exam is much more important, and I really don't like crowds, large music and alcohol. Went to bed later than I wanted (11 PM)... but packed mostly everything I'd need for Heron Island in my trusty orange duffel.

SATURDAY: Woke up early, talked to Jon and got ready for my exam (eee!). Ate brekkie and studied more, and then walked over to the test area. Lots of people milling around--didn't realize how large Genetics is (it's taught in 2 streams, so the class is essentially split). I talked with some of my Genetics friends and then cued up to get into my exam room. Took the test (The prof came in to wish us all good luck); hopefully I'll do well! I guess we get results on Monday--I won't be there but I wonder if I'll get Blackboard access on Heron so that I can check my score. Hopefully I did well--the test didn't seem too difficult and I really hope that I answered everything to satisfaction! Got back later than I anticipated to IH, met up with Nell, Trent and the now-officially-21 Katy and headed off for a picnic lunch at the Botanical Gardens. It was really quite lovely and Nell was an absolute wonder and had made us all sandwiches before we left, as well as packing lots of other lovely stuff to eat that we'd bought. Walked around the park, climbed on some cool strangler fig trees, gave Katy a cake and Ozzie candy (which Katy and I 'split' because we don't know about all of them). I found this really funny possum-thing (it's some sort of marsupial but no one knew which sort) and we took photos of it. He's very cute. ^__^ We had a delightful day out in the park and were absolutely exhausted when we got back to IH. Nell came over to watch me pack, and I showed her some photos of home. When she left I took a shower and finished packing. I'm totally exhausted but am making myself stay awake so that hopefully I will be able to sleep on the 9 hour bus ride to Heron (yaaay. >__<). We leave at 11:30 tonight from Chancellor Bus station--should be a fun trip but I really hope I can sleep for the whole ride up the coast.

On some other notes for the week: I Joined the bagpipe band! I'll be playing lots more, I hope, and will become the best piper ever. ^__^ I'm just a little excited. The only thing about going to Heron means that not only will I be missing classes but I'll be missing pipes. Booo to that. I'[m not bring the chanter to Heron b/c it's not mine. I really want to practice though! It's going to be fantastic.

I have some friends living in my 'room' over in A-tower. I came back to my room-room to find a note on the door saying to go visit myself in A-Tower. There is a picture of the possum we saw last week in there, as well as an invite to the A-Tower supper hosted by Nell and Katy (a dessert-for-supper-supper, which I'm TOTALLY bummed that I'm going to miss out on--Aussies don't have graham crackers and thus have never had s'mores O_o). When I came back later to my closet-room there was a 'platysaurus,' from Katy. It's hideous and I love it. ^__^

Registered for classes at Muhlenberg--the electronic system is pretty good but I had some problems. Basically I was told that I hadn't

taken the pre-rec classes for Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and therefore couldn't be accepted. After a flurry of emails and a call to the registrar's office, I was able to get things figured out. I'm in every class that I wanted to get in to and will have an amazing schedule next year. ^__^ I'm psyched! I now have to find out when housing lotto is and what my roomies are up to... I wonder how it works with them getting my (and Sarah's!) lotto number. Hopefully we get South or Robertson again without a problem. I will have to do some looking.

My Religion prof knows that I'm writing a paper on Kabbalah/Qabalah for her, and has basically invited me to another class she teaches where someone will be giving a lecture on the subject. I'm just a little excited to go hear the talk--It's after I get back from Heron.

We don't quite know what it is, but I found it and we thought it was dead. Nell went to go poke it with a stick and it moved. It wasn't dead! ^__^
