Slept in. Well, until Ryan called. Drive. Now we’re in Wisconsin. I didn’t sleep until we were about 25 minutes away and they put on Prairie Home Companion- it seems whenever they put talking on the radio I’m out. Not soon enough for it to matter though. I did get a lot of reading done. Half way through the new book… oh my. I have my own room! Dinner at a buffet, imagine that. We gave Kyle a hard time about watching what he was eating.

I was sitting with a bunch of kids and Martin said, “I hate chocolate! It is my worst thing! I hate it more than anything! No. My first worst thing is Satan… then chocolate!” So funny. Sarah said, “Would you rather eat chocolate or mayonnaise?” (They all dislike mayo) “Mayonnaise.” Apparently a lot of the kids don’t like chocolate.

On the way back to the hotel, we discovered that the GPS has an mp3 player in it, with lots of bad driving music. Funny. And we can plug it into the aux and everyone can hear the directions! The music pauses when the voice comes on, so it’s very funny.

Kyle and I did some work. Bed time. Show tomorrow. Fairly boring day today, sorry.

So, I’ve sort of been doing a social study, or whatever you want to call it. Seeing how different ways of interacting with new people affects their response. Specifically servers and hotel receptionists. For the last several months, I’ve been being intentional about looking them in the eye (which is fairly normal) but then using their name. And if they don’t have a nametag, I ask. It’s been fun. Sometimes they’re caught off guard. Often they smile when I use it or ask. Then, when we need something or have a question, we always use their name. It’s been fun. Being intentional about realizing they’re people doing a job, that they may not enjoy, and it’s not my place to be demanding. The rest of the crew is catching on and has started doing the same thing- using names. Very fun.

I made up my mind before coming on tour that I would know the names of the local crews in each venue, especially the guys I’m working with, and use their names. It’s been really interesting to see the results. With Kyle around, I add “Mr” to the beginning of a lot of them. A few nights ago, our flyman’s name was Fudge. Everyone got a kick out of it when I called him Mr. Fudge. The results have been great. Give it a whirl- be intentional about using people’s name. See what they do.

Names
Everybody likes to hear their name, it gives them value in what they are doing. Thank you for putting God's people before the project. Your light still shines after you leave and God gets to work in the light. Love ya, Dave
