Patio de las Doncellas
The Courtyard of the Maidians in the Alcázares Reales de Sevilla Well here we are at the end of our two week trip across Spain and Portugal. We had an awesome time and certainly our fair share of travelling owes… which, lets be honest, makes a trip more memorable!
There are only a few things left to do: see Seville and Cadiz; say goodbye to Leah and Dan who are about to head off for another two weeks across Morocco; go home to my own bed! Ohh, and get to eat some pasta!!
Anyways back to Seville, we had a long bus ride from Lagos to Seville - 7 whole hours - and arrived at 40°C heat!
As usual, as soon as we dumped our bags we were straight out sightseeing, first stop Seville’s palace: Alcázares Reales de Sevilla, which has been a royal residence for many centuries.
Dan finally arrived in Seville on a latter bus and once we’d caught up with him we went on a bit of a goose chase trying to find a Flamenco place, with no luck, so instead we went for dinner in a fancy restaurant in Santa Cruz.
The day light lasts for so long we still had time to wander through
Plaza del Triunfo
Outside the Cathedral of Seville the gardens of ‘Jardines de Murillo’ and ‘Parque de Maria Luisa’
In the main park there is a beautiful semi-circular building which is part of the Plaza de España. By the time we left it the park was 10.30pm but still 34°C!
I hope our hostel has good air-conditioning!
The next day we said goodbye to Leah and Dan for their Moroccan trip, while James and I continued our sightseeing of Southern Spain.
We headed to the Cathedral of Seville, built in the 1401 on the site of the city’s former mosque, and is one of the largest Cathedrals in the world. We had a look around both inside and outside of the cathedral, including the amazing intricate gold façade behind the alter, and also the tomb of Christopher Columbus.
We got to walk to the top of the Giralda tower, which was previously a minaret but converted into the cathedral’s bell tower, where we got a birds eye view right across Seville.
James and I decided we’d head out to the coast to Cadiz (pronounced Cad-deth) for a bit of a swim, since the last two times were not as successful as we had hoped.
However, the train we planned on taking did not run today, and the train after that was fully booked… is someone trying to tell us something!!??
But we finally got to the pretty beach town of Cadiz, which due to its geography is surrounded by a sea wall that provides a long view along the coastline, much like the south of France.
We finally got a couple of swims in the warm water before it was time to head back of Seville, and then home to London… or for James, welcome to your new home: London!
