After our one night in Oamaru we headed the 2 hours down the coast to Dunedin.

Dunedin has much Scottish flare left from the settlers that arrived there not so many years ago. It is quite a smally city (most things are contained within it's Octagon Street (two guesses what shape it is).
It was a gloriously sunny day on the Sunday, so we headed out to the Otago Peninsula. After a beautiful 15 mins drive we arrived at Larnach Castle which boast the title of New Zealand's only castle (well at least by English standards). It is more of a stately home/mansion dressed up to look like a castle on the outside, but both inside and out it retains the beautiful charm of when it was first built, about 150 years ago (old by New Zealand standards - the country itself is only just over 200!) We enjoyed a lovely picnic in front of the castle with lovely view over the peninsula, and then headed up to the very end of the headland, where there is an Albatross Sanctuary and saw lots of the beautiful birds nesting and then soaring above us. Their wingspan is 3m (bigger than even us!)

The following day, we had hoped to visit the Cadbury factory, but there was a problem in the factory, so the tour was not on whilst we were there, so we decided to take a chill out time in order to rest up a bit and headed to the cinema to see 'There Will Be Blood'. The latest Daniel Day Lewis film, which we both thought was brilliant and very well acted, but was perhaps a bit heavy for daytime viewing. Still enjoyable nonetheless! After that in the evening, we went to the Speights Brewery Tour, obviously a must-see attraction, which we thoroughly enjoyed including a free tasting of the complete range of beers and a meal which was humoungous but delicious!!

That was pretty much it for Dunedin, and we headed off next to the Catlins and then to Te Anau in the fiordlands.
