NZ Day 5/6 - Abel Tasman National Park

We arrived in Motueka at The Resurgence Lodge to find it tucked away in the most beautiful natural setting we have been to yet. Peter and Claire the owners of the Lodge are so very nice and fabulous chefs! We walked around the property on the first day and enjoyed the surroundings. We went just a short distance to the Resurgence Pool where there is a hike around the clear running stream. In the evening we enjoyed a wonderfully prepared meal at the Lodge where we dined with Peter, Claire and a couple from Oxford, England.

The next day we awoke to a delicious breakfast and then were off to the Abel Tasman Nat'l Park about 25 minutes away. From there we caught an Aqua Taxi to Tonga Bay where we were instructed on our sea kayaking. Our Swedish guide was very good and we in a group of 4 kayaks made our way in the sea down to Bark Bay where we had a picnic lunch. We left our kayaks and began our hiking trek to Torrent bay which took about 2 hours. The hike was breath taking (as is every part of NZ so far). From that point we waited on the Aqua Taxi to take us back to our starting point. A short drive back to the Lodge and we enjoyed the hot tub to soothe our sore arm muscles from all the paddling. That evening we enjoyed another gourmet meal prepared by our hosts, where we were joined by 4 other couples, one being from the U.S. A most memorable stay at this wonderful spot in NZ.
