The hardest part of the stay in these remote villiages for both myself & the others has been the food. Western & local taste are totally different. The villiagers eat things that are totally unpallatable to us, & interestingly enough, the western food that we took for them to try, including chocolate, did not suit their taste.

..... including the infamous Buffalo intestine soup, affectionatly named by us volunteers, "S**t soup". I'll leave it to your imagination to work out why! During my stay, I have found that my appetite has virtually disapeard, & I am eating only to survive. I am not sure how much weight that I have lost, but I guess I needed to lose a few pounds anyway;)

.... Cheers Lao Lao, the locally brewed fire water known as Lao whiskey 70% +. I think it also acts as a digestiev (ie disinfectant for the stomach) when taken after a meal.
