sushiya
this is the conveyor belt that runs by all the tables with different platters on it so i finally had my first
sushi in JAPAN a couple of nights ago! i know i know, why did it take so long? i ask myself the same question. i mean i've eaten ramen, soba, udon, tempura, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, plus the many other foods i've eaten not knowing what it is! but for some reason i never had sushi...
but i finally got my chance! me, leilani, anton, and bas decided to go to a sushiya for dinner one evening. so we all met up and then road our bikes into the city. well, not the actual downtown hirakata city, but the area near the kyu-kyu and fresco supermarkets. i had never been to the place we were going, but lauren had told us they had 100 yen sushi...can't beat that! that's really cheap (but good) sushi...that is if you can survive the bike ride there! that had to be the scariest bike ride i've ever experienced. we had to go down this road that had two-way traffic, and it was rush hour cause everyone was getting off of work. and there was maybe a foot on the side of the road for your bike. it's the strangest feeling
more sushi
all the platters are in sections with a little sign in front of each showing what it is and sometimes the price being a foot or so away from moving vehicles! it's kinda scary, but also exciting at the same time lol. i remember looking to the side one time and this bus was literally maybe 10 inches away from my face! it's crazy...
well after about 15 minutes of riding our bike, we reached the sushiya. and by that time i was
STARVING!! of course none of us had ever been to the restaurant so we didn't know what to do. we go in and they give us a table number, so we go sit at that table. well there's a screen and then there's a conveyor belt running by the side of the table with different sushi platters and other foods going by...it was so cool!! but we didn't know what to do. do we just start taking plates? or do we place an order? well we got tired of waiting so we just start taking plates off the conveyor belt. they had just about everything going on that belt!...cucumber maki, tempura, sushi, fruit, ice cream, juice boxes, even squid and something with eyes...first i had cucumber maki (big surprise). then i had a shrimp tempura with egg roll,
shinkansen
if you order something it comes served to you on the shinkansen train right above the conveyor belt...it was so cool! which was really really oishii! then i had more shrimp tempura, but not a roll. it was just a big tempura on top of a rice ball. and you get like 3-5 rolls on each plate, so after that i was full! and i probably drank about a liter of green tea too! they had a hot water dispenser at the table and tea bags. and we learned the hard way that no, you can't take a plate off and then put it back. cause leilani had bas grab a plate going by, but it turned out not to be what she thought it was, so he just put it back on the belt! we were all like, "are you supposed to do that?" then anton reads the sign that says you're not...but luckily i don't think anyone saw. it was a lot of fun, and the best part of all was that it only cost me 315 yen!! that's quite yasuii for such an oishii meal!
after our wonderful dinner we rode back to sem 4 and me, leilani, and bas watched dodgeball in the lounge! me and leilani ate our green tea ice cream and it was
i love sushi!
the sushi was soooo good!! soo good! and of course it was a great movie...poor bas didn't even know what dodgeball was, but i think he liked it after watching the movie! lol. it was such a fun night!
so that was my sushiya experience! i hope to go there again really soon...
now for my random thought of the day!...some of the girls here have a, ummmm, unique style. i see the craziest things every day. they take their fashion seriously. and most of the time they look cute, but sometimes i see someone wearing something that just makes me think "what the heck?" like this girl we saw in the CIE the other day. it's like 30 degrees outside and it's been snowing all day, and she comes in wearing really really really short shorts (if you can even call them shorts!) and boots without rights or anything. then she has a huge winter coat on! i just had to get a picture, so i pretended like i was taking a picture of leilani and we got it! i hope this isn't how all the girls dress once it gets warm...
