As soon as we arrived at Hong Kong airport from Delhi, I knew I was going to love this city. Everywhere was so clean - the toilets even had antiseptic spay so you could clean the seat before use! A very different experience to the airport we departed from!

We checked into our hostel and were pleasantly surprised at the size of our room (we'd been warned that space is a premium in Hong Kong so rooms are usually tiny). Apparently we were very lucky because ours was supposed to be for four people (they'd have to be very small!) and we had a window (quite a rarity it seems!).

Hong Kong is a mix between London's Docklands and New York with lots of Chinese writing and neon lights thrown in. After the cities we've visited so far, it seemed really modern. We spent the first half an hour wandering around excitedly pointing out familiar shops and fast food restaurants!

During our three days there, we visited lots of markets, saw the sound and light show at the harbour and went on the Peak Tram which travels up a steep hill at a 45 degree angle. The view from the top is usually spectacular but unfortunately the weather was a bit rubbish while we were in Hong Kong so we didn't see much past the first lot of sky scrapers! (We also experienced our first drizzle in two months - still no real rain yet!)

By coincidence, Sarah, one of my friends from university, was in Hong Kong with work so we met up with her one evening for dinner. It was lovely to see a familiar face, if a little surreal - it felt like we'd just met up in London's China Town! After a yummy meal, we ended up in an Irish pub which made it seem even more like being at home!

Hong Kong was a bit of a respite for us. It was a really easy city to navigate, we didn't get hassled and everything was strangely familiar. But after three days our debit card was begging us to leave so we boarded our flight to Bangkok for some long-awaited hot weather!
