From Aurangabad, I took the night train to Bangalore, spent 2 nights here and jumping on the night train to Trivandrum in a few hours from now. Getting a train ticket was difficult... everybody wants to get to the coast for New Years of course. But I was determined to not get stuck in Bangalore, amidst the IT crowds. I am not even allowed in the bars where the better parties go on, because only couples are allowed in. Not that the partying matters all that much though. I just don't want to loose much time in Bangalore. Somehow I managed to get a ticket, against all expectations. A high-positioned female train station employee caught me in distress (I'd been driven around all afternoon again by rickshaw drivers to all places I told them not to go to, and when I finally reached the train station, a guy who was standing next in the qeue was just pushing me forward - I gave up at some point and sat down by the entrance), took me inside her office and made sure I was put on the waiting list. With only 5 people on the waiting list, she said I was sure
Bangalore - IT, you say?
Now, THIS is why I do not want to stay here. to have a seat. It really cheered me up to find a helping hand! And yes, I just checked the website: I have been assigned a berth in coach A1, berth 19 :-)) Train leaves at 21:45, arrives tomorrow late afternoon.
I might stay in Trivandrum for the night if the train is delayed, or move a little south to a place with a little more peace.
Enjoy the New Year's festivities :-)), and best wishes to all of you for the coming year !!
