What has the month of December brought?
A lot of work! Although, not the paying kind so that’s unfortunate though I doubt I would have had time!
Christmas in Sweden and Denmark is done nicely - they light up the city streets, Christmas trees are in plazas everywhere and we were singing Swedish, English and French Christmas carols (Jul songs) at the preschool. I’ve since downloaded a Swedish and Danish Christmas CD so I can sing along, lol.
I think the best way to explain what I’ve been upto is in photos and videos, I’ve already explained our bathroom switching project, so the videos are here: http://jonaseriksson.blip.tv there’s a few there. Here on my Flicker account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8517602@N08/ there’s photos of the toilet project as well as photos from the Half Machine Symphony Orchestra performance.
We’ve received great feedback from our teachers about our project so that’s nice and we’re trying to put it in some clubs as a permanent installation.
Besides that project, I’ve just been working on some concepts for marketing, branding, and administrative stuff (contracts, etc) for Half Machine so that’s been eating up a lot of my time but its interesting and I’m super excited
about all the stuff going on with that so it makes it all worth it. I’m working with a graphic designer/photographer right now to come up with some concepts and we had fun the other night browsing through literally 10,000 fonts. My finger got tired of hitting the ‘down’ key after the letter “G” category of fonts however but we got some great typography with santa hats, karate people, and dinosaurs. All ridiculous to use but fun to play with.
School officially finished yesterday, I brought in some cookies which disappeared pretty quickly, (a good thing, considering they had an entire POUND of butter in them, ugh) and then I played some Guitar Hero with Pete in the cafeteria. There was another installation going on for the theatre people which a person I met was working on - you go through an ‘elevator’ and step into a nightmare world. (Reality-Dreams). It looked a bit CSI mixed with Half Life. It was interesting but what was more interesting (than wandering through plastic sheeting, bloody tools, and strange things falling from the ceiling) was how the group reacted. A)I was the only English speaking person so they were kind enough to
all switch to English for me. B)Two girls got quite skittish from it and were shrieking at every turn while the rest of us were mildly amused and confused about the whole thing. C)It was interesting to see how the exhibit ended once we non-verbally all decided to climb back into the elevator and were allowed to leave. Otherwise it could have gone on forever. Group effort to leave nightmare. Interesting. Yeah, I’ve said interesting like 8 times. There isn’t another word for it. After Guitar hero (which was at the end of the day) we headed to the train where I forgot to buy a ticket as I usually have a monthly pass so I hopped off the train to buy one and it left without me. Luckily, Pete is awesome and grabbed my bag for me and we headed out for some Thai food, cocktails and a fun Outkast movie called IdleWild.
Tomorrow I head to Copenhagen and then I’m off to Germany on Monday where I’m REALLY excited to see the Christmas markets (there’s some in Malmo too, mmm mini donuts (J.E.)) and do some sight seeing and possible shoe shopping for my gigantic feet.
Yay for German shoe sizes. Then its off to England, where I will be greeted with a Hed Kandi concert the day after I get there then back to my other home in Nottingham, where I’ll be until January 8th.
That’s about it, nothing too exciting, its all been working stuff but I have had a few fun moments throughout - dancing the night away on the barge when I had the barge all to myself with a killer sound system. Hauling 5 foot tall metal poles and bases on the train on rush hour from København to Malmö....many more. Yep, good times. 😊
