We have spent 2 lovely days at Wanaka. we had an amazing drive from Franz Josef, past the Fox Glacier which I think was even more impressive than Franz.... and then on through Haas past the lakes to Wanaka.
Wanaka is Lovely, very quiet, but I think that may be the time of year, as in Summer the tourists can outnumber the locals 4 to 1.....
The town is nestled in a valley that was carved out by glaciers, sat by a huge lake.
yesterday we went to Stuart Landsborough's Puzzleworld.Which is fantastic, we highly recommend it if you are in the area. It has 4 rooms of wierd stuff, one is holograms, one is of 3D faces that follow you round the room, which is quite freaky. One is all on a slope but it has various activities that are to confuse you... one being a slidding chair that goes uphill.... and the best room I think is the Aimes room which, which makes things/people look bigger or smaller, this was the same princible used in Lord of the Rings .... Then out side it has a massive maze. It's meant to take between 1 -1.5 hours to get round... Aisha and i did it in less than about an hour but Russ and Ellie didn't come out untill we had sat down and got a drink.... Ellie was not happy, as she is so compeitive..... They also have a good cafe and shop, where you can sit and do all the puzzels on the tables....
After that we took a drive out to Glendhu Bay (which is around Lake Wanaka) and to the foot of the treble cone ski area, which is breathtaking... nothing but mountains and sheep........Oh and another LOTR location....
Today we went to Wanaka Transport and Toy Museum they have over 30'000 items including Barbie, Lego, starwars, salt and pepper pots, cars, planes, helicopters, motorbikes... infact you name it it's there.... it is one guys collection, that has been growing for 50 odd years.... we spoke to his daughter who said she is holding back on showing him Ebay..... if you lot think i have a problem with all my 'stuff' you ain't seen nothing..... although I was a tad worried at how much of the Barbie collection I have either got or had....... If Russ were writing this he would be able to tell you all the Cars and Bikes..... but i'm not that good... although they did have an Elvis Ken doll and 3 Marilyn Monroe dolls oh and a little red beetle!!!!!
We went to The Reef for tea on the Lake front, looking out at the snowcapped mountains, the girls had fish and chips again, and me a Russ polished off a Kilo of Prawns.... mmmmmmm..... Sorry Pheob's no pudding had Ice Cream at the museum....
Of to te Anou tomorrow and hopefully to Milford Sound and Doubtfull Sound..... but we will see on the weather as they get a few metres a year down there......
