So I took the liberty of dragging my ass out to Hong Kong where the nearest Acer service center is located. you ask why? Well in case you are out of the loop my 4 month old notebook had enough and decided to go into a coma. (So I don't know if its only my bad luck, but if you are planning to buy a new laptop, might want to avoid Acer).
Anyhow, to get to the ferry terminal downtown I took the bus, and it takes about 1 hour and a quarter... The funny part was that as I was on my way there, probably 3/4 of the way to changing to the second bus that goes from DT to the ferry terminal a man approached the driver. He started talking to him and I saw the driver hand him his cell-phone, so I figured that he had lost his cell and was going to call it to try and locate it on the bus. However, the phone did not ring. So the guy who lost his cell-phone started becoming more vocal and the bus driver while driving down a main road pulls over to the side of the
road and stops. Now as the bus driver walks back, he is shouting something to everyone, probably something like "has anyone seen a cell phone?" and some of the other passengers started becoming vocal too.
The guy started getting upset and he was yelling now, and due to my excellent Chinese skills I figured he was threatening to call the police. (Police in China=110) and the numbers in Chinese that he was yelling (Yau Yau Ling). So I was getting the picture and got very amused by the situation. Then after realizing that we were waiting for the police to show up, I walked up to the bus driver and showed his a time schedule of the ferry and told him I had to catch the 11AM one and that I'm leaving. "Hell no" he said (in Chinese) so I had to sit with everyone else on the bus and wait for the police to show up... Luckily they arrived within 10 minutes... I suppose they have nothing better to do then to respond to a lost/stolen cell-phone call.
The next scenario I imagined was everyone getting frisked until the phone is recovered. The police arrive and the
bus driver goes off to talk to them. Next, the guy who misplaced his cell in someones hand goes off to talk to the police. Then the police come on the bus and start asking some questions and some of the passengers respond. And then I thought ok, one person at a time will get off the bus and be interrogated haha. However, to my disappointment the Police officer mumbled something in Chinese, took the guy who lost his cell and drove off. I suppose to file a report?
Pretty amazing that the bus driver would stop the bus in the middle of the road, when he has a time schedule to keep and wait for the police... And since when do people even call the police for getting their cell stolen? Well well... somehow I doubt he will ever get it back.
OK back to Hong Kong. The ferry ride takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes on a high speed catamaran. Then once I got there I got on the MTR and headed to Acer to drop off my notebook. Found it easily and hopefully this coming weekend I will go back to HK to pick
it up.
After that I decided to take myself out for a treat. I went to an international supermarket and bought pitot with olive oil and zatar spice, Israeli made hummus, and Danish Havarti cheese! mmmmmm what a feast!! Took it to the park and chilled for a bit. Then just cruised around Hong Kong Island for a few more hours. Went to some 300 year old temple, had a nice cappucino and espresso at HSBC, read their newspaper and carried on to SOHO. This area has a lop of pubs and restaurants and is supposedly a hip place to party.. But perhaps I was there a little too early (happy hours)... So after a little while I headed back to the ferry terminal and came back home.
Secondly, about 15 minutes from the campus in a town called Chingding they have on the weekends a food night market where they have a million stalls with all kinds of foods, veggies and meats to noodles and fruits. Hung out there with some of the TA's and ate dinner there.
insha allah next week I will have my notebook back!
Kisses and hugs,
me
