Well, let's see. Where should I begin? I think most of you know that I quit my job on (kind of) a whim last month. Over Labor Day weekend, I moved home to Kansas City and have been bumming around my parents house for the last month. It's been nice taking a break from work and not having any real responsibilities. In the past month I went to Florida and learned some lessons, hosted some friends at my parents, met up with high school friends that I haven't seen in 5 years and got a job to teach English in South Korea.

When I quit my job I had the idea of going to Korea for the next year to teach and now it's finally here. I thought this would be the best way to keep in touch with everyone over the next few months. South Korea is pretty technology savvy so for those of you who like personalized emails you can just delete this and send one my way.

I finally accepted a job position after overanalyzing every job opportunity that came my way. I figured they are all pretty much the same and if I get screwed in the process, at least I'll have a story to share. I will be moving to DaeGu, the third largest city in South Korea where 2.45 million people reside in an 885 sq km area. I will be teaching elementary and middle school children at a hagwon. Hagwons are private afterschool institutions that specialize in certain topics. Korean children go to school in the morning and then come to hagwon after school until about 9 or 10 at night. (um...crazy)

My visa is being processed as I write this and I will hopefully be on a plane to Korea by the end of the month. Then I will be off to a country where Lonely Planet says don’t leave home without ..."checking your socks have no holes in them", "improving your skill at charades and gestures as not many Koreans understand English" and "practicing being naked in front of strangers so you can enjoy Korea's many excellent and reasonably priced hot-spring spas."

Nice.

YIPEE!!!
Susan, I'm so excited for you and for this opportunity! Did you parents help you with your decision? What a great opportunity for them to visit you. Maybe Molly and I should start saving now and come and visit you, huh? Much, much love! Erica
