This was the view from the back parking lot at Sinagua Plaza in Sedona, AZ.
We began the day around 8:00am and had a quiet breakfast in downtown Sedona. We did a little shopping at Sinagua Plaza which had many different shops ranging from New Age Psychics to Indian Trading Posts. We bought the usual postcards and momentos and browsed A LOT.

We then drove to Montezuma's Castle via Highway 179 which was a scenic drive with lots of red rock formations....AND per our usual vacation tradition....road construction. So, it was red rocks and orange construction cones for quite a while. Kim had fun trying to take pictures from the car as we sped along at 25 mph. LOL. She was able to get a couple good shots of Bell Rock.

Kim and I enjoyed our stop at Montezuma's Castle. It is amazing to think that those ruins have lasted since the 1100's. It's estimated that between 20-30 people lived here. We found out that tourists were allowed to climb up into the castle up until 1951....I cannot imagine trying to climb up rickety ladders into those caves and rooms.

We drove back to Sedona and decided to drive up to the scenic overlook by the Sedona airport. Let's just

This is Montezuma Castle which was carved and built into the side of a cliff. Notice the tourists in the extreme bottom left hand corner to get an idea of the size of the ruins.
say.....it was a narrow road with the very THINNEST of guard rails and NO shoulder. It was a harrowing 10 minute climb....but our rental car handled it with no problem. (Can't say the same for the driver....she had to take a minute to recover).

At the scenic overlook you could clearly see the city of Sedona and the many rock formations in the background. The easiest to recognize is Coffee Pot Rock.

We went back uptown to do some more shopping before turning in for the night.

Tomorrow we are off to see Jerome, AZ and some more Indian ruins.
