We had a long travel day today. We drove from OKC to Roswell, NM which is roughly 460 miles but a lot of the day we were on a small highway that went through a lot of small towns in Texas and New Mexico. So we didn't drive over 60 m.p.h. for a lot of the trip. The scenery totally changed today....a lot of WIDE open spaces, ranches, windmills, cows and trains. We left OKC around 6:30am and arrived in Roswell around 2:00pm.

We ate lunch at the "Nuthin' Fancy Diner" in Roswell which is famous around here because President George W Bush got some carry out and did a campaign stop here during the last presidential campaign. They had a lot of pictures of "W" and his visit and an autographed menu. They also have a "W" special on the menu....BBQ Ribs, Fried Okra and Buttermilk Pie.

After lunch we visited the International UFO Museum and Research Center. Roswell, NM is very famous for a UFO crash that happened in 1947. The museum does a great job of providing a timeline of the discovery, report and government explanation of what crashed in 1947. There are also exhibits about

other UFO sightings and such. It was very interesing.

As we walked in downtown Roswell it was funny to see that many of the local businesses embrace the "alien" theme. There are a lot of green aliens and flying saucers displayed. Even the McDonalds has a flying saucer for the childrens' playground. The Arby's has a sign that says, "Aliens Welcome".

All in all I was quite surprised at how quaint the city is....all I've read about Roswell relates to the alien or UFO legend and this city seems to be much more than that. Although they have a good tourist attraction here.... The UFO Museum had more customers than I would have thought on a Tuesday late afternoon.

We turned in early because we had another long travel day ahead of us on 9/21. Another 470 miles and another 8 hours in the car YAY! 😊

We told the front desk to give us a wake up call at 3:00am so we could be on our way.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE .......
