big bowl of meat
this is what I ate to greet me to uruguay well, i guess it´s time for me to start this thing up again, since I´m travelling again now. man, I'm in uruguay. It's really cool, never thought I would be here tho. I guess you never know where life will take you.
It took me two days on the bus to get here, and was a brutal ride. Not so bad, but when I arrived, I was sore and exhausted. Travelling is tough, good thing I'm doing it while I´m still kinda young. I think when you get older you can't put up with so much.
So, I spent a week at Ilha Grande, this tropical island, enjoying the beaches, hiking through the forest. Every day was perfect, blue skies, hardly clouds. Then I got on the bus two days...when I got into uruguay, it was 3 in the morning. i got off the bus to get my passport stamped. everyone else on the bus was sleeping, but I kept my passport instead of leaving it with the guy. It was chilly and raining. I thought, oh man. So, here I am in montevideo, and it´s cold and cloudy all the time. Fortunately I knew some really cool
crazy man
we danced on the steps of the legislative palace. Why? We were just havin a good time... people here, so it´s been fun. But I miss brasil. It´s hard to leave that tropical paradise. Also I miss my friends there. Saudades!
But, here I am, the last leg of the trip. Today I took it really easy, because I felt exhausted. But after resting, I feel better.
Brasil was great, I had such a good time there. Looking back, everything is so great. It´s funny, I don´t tend to remember anything bad, just the good stuff, and how nice everything was. In reality, there were rough times, but they sorta get lost along the way. And looking back, I´m just so nostalgic and it´s been the best trip! My time in Rio too. It is maybe even more enjoyable to remenisc than experiencing the times themselves. Or to dream about the future. Could it be? Maybe that´s why we don´t live in the present?
Anyway, we'll never know. Last night we watched this very interesting video, called, the manager, his wife, and his wife's lover--something like that. One of my friends here is helping organize this conference, which I'm not totally sure what it is yet, but it's really neat.
So, at the
al gusto
this is a special uruguay dish... place we watched it, there was this theater, and they had a piano. It was hidden behind the stage. I kept going back there and playing it. Man it was a blessing to play piano, I missed it so much. I was so tired and aching from all my travel, the piano really just soothed my soul. I played for about 50 people as we waited for the movie to start. I was like the phantom of the opera. Except when I came out, some of them clapped. Then after the movie, I played again, and they opened the curtain, so the phantom was revealed. I didn´t mind. Man I just loved playing that piano!
Today I walked into this building in montevideo...a building with all kinds of government stuff or something. Anyway, they had art there, I wasn´t sure whose. I walked around looking at the paintings. I was looking at one, and this jolly old fellow came up to me and started telling me about it. I suspected maybe he made it. Turned out he did! Then I found out, this was an exposition for older adults and their works. It was really cool. We had a
fun demonstration
we went and did all this stuff in the public square nice chat, and I met his wife. He was going to turn 80 in a few months! Imagine that! Talking to his wife made me wanna see grandma.
Now here´s a doozy:
in uruguay...well let's put it like this.
I was eating my first meal in uruguay, in a restaurant. There was a big family at this other table. Some other family members arrived. I watched curiously, to see how the kissing on the face works here, for greeting. In brasil, in rio, you give one kiss each cheek. Here, they gave one kiss, and maybe a little hug. But the funny thing was, the boys kissed eachother on the cheek as well! I had not seen that before (tho once an old french man had given me three kisses on the cheek, in france, but that´s another story).
So anyway, last night when I met people, even guys, we all kissed on the cheek. I thought it was pretty amusing. People here are really friendly, and everyone introduced themselves. While in Rio, a lot of times, people were less formal about introductions there.
Another thing is, I tried the grappamiel. It is this alcohol that has
honey in it. It´s tasty!
We watched this trippy movie about this asshole owner of a restaurant. It is to tie in with this whole convention thing.
Well, after visiting uruguay, I have to say that I pretty much love this country. the people are awesome, and it is so so nice...
anyway, this place is closing, so I guess that´s about it.
