Coolest Water Fountain EVER!
This was pretty much the highlight of my day. This water fountain was SO COOL! There was this statue with a steady stream of water coming out of it, and you put your hand over the end to stop it up. Then the water would build up and come out a hole in the top, and you could just drink it from there. I want one of these in my house when I grow up. Seriously. Hello!!! I’m back again, believe it or not, and I actually went out today and did some fun and exciting things! I also remembered to bring my camera this time so I have WAY too many pictures to post right now. I will post as many as I can right now, and maybe more later if I think of it, and if I have more fun ones to put up. In the mean time, let me fill you in on what I’ve been up to!
This morning my roommates and I went out to this walking street called Vaci Utca I believe….it may be “Ut”…or something else. But I know the street is actually called Vaci, so we’ll stick with that for now. Vaci is basically a bunch of great stores where people are tempted to spend money they don’t have. Unfortunately Stacey, Paige and I were all in need of leggings or tights to help us through this cold cold weather….I will take this moment to acknowledge that it is only September and the weather hasn’t even cooled down yet and all three of us are going to turn into total Popsicles when it really does get cold cause we
School
This is the front door to my school. If you are ever walking along and you see this door, feel free to just come on in and sit in on my classes. Through the door, to the left, then first right, then left at the hallway, then right at the next hallway, follow this to the end and kind of to the right. My classroom is the last one at the end of this hall. See you there! are such weather wimps currently. So we found our way into a store that sold leggings and such and had a very successful shopping trip. The only frivolous thing I purchased was a pair of 75 cent earrings. I’m pretty sure that deserves some kind of plaque or something. I’ll look into it.
After shopping we went home, dumped off our stuff and headed back out to visit Buda. We navigated our way across the river and up to Castle Hill, which is one of many hills in Buda. We found the Castle Hill Labyrinth, this is a real labyrinth that exists in the hill. It began as caves that were formed by the naturally occurring hot water springs or something like this, there was a sign explaining it and it was in English but we were so excited about getting lost that we just kind of rushed past it. Inside the labyrinth it was actually not as exciting as I had thought it would be, there were no crazy creatures or anything like that, just lots of passageways and statues. Stacey, Paige and I took about 100 pictures throughout the labyrinth of us posing with the different statues and
School again
This is the view from the front door of my school. I walk along that street there to get to school from the bus stop. I thought this might help you find the place. pictures. Towards the end of the maze there was a room called “The Labyrinth of Courage”, it was the only room with a door so or course we went bounding in. Turns out, there were no lights. So we went rushing back out. We then went looking for some other people to come with us so we wouldn’t be alone. The first people we found were these two foreign guys who actually spoke some English, so we had them lead the way. In fact these foreign guys were totally inept at leading the way in a completely dark room and they just kind of stood there and talked about how dark it was. This left us with only one option, so we just kept taking pictures of nothing so that we could see when the flash went off if we were about to walk into anything, or to see if there were bodies hidden in the deep dark corners. As a result I have about 25 pictures of random walls, peoples feet, the backs of the two guys heads, etcetera. This group of pictures will probably be left out of this blog simply because they are just so boring, much
The street of the Labyrinth
This s the innocent little street that the labyrinth is hidden on. You would never know...excpet for the big sign that says "Labyrinth". But besides that, it's totally hidden. like the “Labyrinth of Courage”. Honestly though, it was pretty scary and it turns out that Stacey, Paige and I don’t have much courage if we don’t have our cameras. After this we left the labyrinth as headed back towards the natural light at the top of the stairs.
On castle hill there is a giant church. I am sure this church has a name, but I don’t know what it is. It was a really beautiful church, and everyone seemed to want to get married there today. In total I think we saw five or six weddings taking place. While we were standing in front of the church we saw one wedding party heading into the church, one standing in front taking pictures and another was leaving in a horse drawn carriage. And this was before we started walking around the church to the back. From the back of the church there is an amazing view of the city, mostly Pest, and the river. We got ice cream and walked around looking at all the different things we could see from that high up. Then we stumbled across the cake museum. I’m sure there is a real name for
Wedding
This is the cute wedding that was leaving when we first got to the church. I wasn't quick enough to get a very good picture, and to be honest I have no idea who they are so it was a little strange to be taking their picture in the first place. With the castle setting though it could very well have been Sleeping Beauty and Prince Charming. We may never know for sure.... this museum but I don’t know what it is. All I know is that it had the most amazing cakes I have ever seen in my entire life. The best part was that most of the cakes were of different things around Budapest, such as the beautiful church that I don’t know the name of, or the Chain Bridge with the Lions that guard it and everything. There was even a cake shaped like Parliament! After the cakes we headed back home, figuring amazing giant cakes really couldn’t be beat. And really, what could possibly be cooler than a giant cake shaped like Queen Elizabeth?
