An Octopus welcome!
Bula from Fiji! (thats hello!)

We had a fantastic time in Fiji. We spent a few days on an island resort called Octopus on Waya island, one of the Yasawa Islands. It was amazing, as you can see from the photos -a paradise island. After a 1.5 hour boat ride to the Island we were greeted by the locals singing to us and had a welcome ceremony in the evening where we had to drink 'kava' (which is the powdered root of a pepper plant mixed with water) It has sedative properties apparently but it tasted of grass and just made your tongue go numb! The locals drink it all day every day, explaining why everything always starts late in Fiji -Fiji time!

After the Island we went on a Blue Lagoon cruise of the rest of the Yasawa islands, more lovely beaches and brilliant snorkelling. I was a bit seasick though! We visited a couple of the small villages on the islands, the people live really simply in huts however one village did have a sky dish for the rugby!! Glynn played beach volleyball against the ship crew and won!

The mainland is very poor and the

hotel we stayed at in Lautoka was an 'experience'!! However overall we had a great time in Fiji.
