Katrena and John’s son (and my honorary nephew), Connor, turned one yesterday on the same day that I officially adopted Maya. This is good feng shui (;-p) given their recent betrothal.

Our batch went out to dinner (Chinese, finally!) to celebrate last night and the birthday boy received a stuffed panda, a little toy car and a book from the batch and some funky shoes from Aunty Caroline and Nicky. In honour of Connor’s big day - and to our great self-sacrifice - the batch also ate a whole black forest gateau (please don’t ask me how I swung one of these in China, as adoption officials may be reading this blog). Connor also managed to squeeze in a swim in the hotel pool between other pressing engagements including two very satisfying naps and an official birthday poo.

It’s a testament to what a fantastic friend Katrena is (and John’s amazing generosity) that she and Connor are here with me in China now, meaning that their whole family unfortunately missed Connor’s official first birthday. I really appreciate it so much.

Happy Birthday big boy!! (Younger than betrothed is a good thing from my experience) Hope you had a fun day that you won't remember but will be told lots of stories about it. Photos and videos are wonderful for memories. My admiration & sincere appreciation goes to both Katrena & Nicky for being there for ecstatic Caroline & beautiful Maya. Can't wait to meet you all. since apparently we are now all related!!! Love to all Nanna P.S. please kiss Maya on her tushy for me
