Barbecue in the Field
Adam took us down to a meadow somewhere where we cooked a hearty meal, lit a campfire and stayed there til it was dark playing uke, chasing cows and discussing metaphysics... I also frollicked amongst the daisies a bit.After being amused by extraneous English town names like 'Stow-on-the-Wold' and 'Bourton-on-the-Water' I found myself driving north with Benny & his mate Matt to 'Kingston-Upon-Hull' when it dawned on me that they weren't really into the whole brevity thing here in the UK...
Passing through 'Little-Rissington-of-Four-Score-unto-Twain' and 'Waddington-girt-by-the-Mound-at-the-Angle-to-the-Perpendicular-at-which-the-Mistress-of-the-Stile-did'th-Micturate'... (no, no really... i made them up...) we arrived in the afternoon at a city where the sky was closer to the ground than your average 5 year old- Hull.
I think the only thing Hull is famous for is being bombed in the 2nd world war... that and it's record of having the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe!
Still, Benny's friend-of-friend, Adam, who was 24 and still not pregnant was an absolute legend and let us stay in his house for a couple of nights. He's a really cool artistic guy who bombed out in his history degree and travelled China, India and Southeast Asia instead. Between me, him, Benny and Benny's mate Matt- who is a ridiculously intelligent quantum-astro-physicist-mathematician somethingorother- we managed to have some really far out conversations and a bloody good time!
I'm off tomorrow to try and manoeuver my way through the
mmm... pasta
my delicious pasta salad... i think it had a little too much mace... London public transport system to Stansted airport where I will $£%*@ stay the night in the departure lounge until my plane leaves at 6:30am!! Ash and Alaya have informed me that they are actually in Slovenia, but fortunately my Austrian mate Alex, who I met in Koh Tao is going to pick me up from Salzberg and let me crash a night at his gaff, which will be great! He's the one who was at the same Reggae beach party in Freo that I was- and is right into Em-Dee and his didgeridoos- a real safe old boy!
So yeah, off on a road trip round Europe I go! In the back of a van with me mates again! 😊 Can't wait! I've also been a right indian giver and snatched up Mal from Benny to take to Ash- who is in desperate need of a guitar... or similar. Sorry Benji... i'll get you a uke for Christmas!

Hey Charlie - I'm just sitting here writing a paper (yeah - already) and I can't believe it was only a few months ago we were roomies in Phi Phi. Sounds like you're having a blast, wish I could be there!
