Our departure from New York's Kennedy Airport on Japan Air Lines was exactly on time. The flight was non-stop to Tokyo taking us north over Canada and Alaska and surely above the Arctic Circle. As we cross the Bering Sea we pass the International Date Line and suddenly find ourselves in Friday! It is really hard to keep track of time as it stays daylight for the entire flight. We then proceeded south alongside the Kamchatka Peninsula of eastern Russia landing in Tokyo only 5 minutes past our scheduled arrival time on Friday. An easy change was made to our connecting flight to Beijing where we also arrived on time.
