This is our last morning in Beijing. I am taking a little down time and I am going to attempt to load some photos. So far this has mostly been an exercise in frustration as there is only one computer in the entire hotel and it is very slow!!! I have a lunch date with Dr. Major in a little dumpling shop close to the hotel and then we are to catch a train to Datong where we will visit some ancient Buddhist caves predating the Tang Dynasty. I am looking forward to the train ride through the countryside. I have a pretty good feeling what it means to be in a city along with 14 million other human beings and I am definitely ready for some breathing space. Yesterday the air quality was so poor that my eyes and lungs were burning. We had a guest lecturer talk to us yesterday on the environmental problems China is facing. This is a huge concern with the Olympic games just around the corner. We were told that during the games the government will just outlaw activites such as driving private cars.

I haven't forgotten your assignments 😊 Computer time has been a problem. But for those of you who would like another assignment Google "Maps of China" and find Datong. It will be West of Beijing. You also might want to see what you can find out about this little visited but fascinating destination.

Will close and attempt to load photos.

Wow, Ms. Ellsworth!!
:D haha, and I thought I was busy! I've been catching up with your blogs so far.. and oo boi, sounds so exciting!! When I saw the picture of the Great Wall, I was amazed by the many steps.. O_O'' now I'm curious about it's actual length... ((ehh.. I would probably pass out from the first 10 steps)) The picture of you in a rickshaw is interesting.. did it feel a bit scary to be paddled around? it looks a bit easy to fall out of if the driver attempts sharp turns.. :D btw, pretty blue skirt in the journal a while back. *heart* You look like your enjoying yourself. ;] Have even more fun in the days to come~!! jya ne~!
