Its been a few days since we wrote, and things have changed a lot since then. From Uruguay we headed back to Buenos Aires for a last night out. Had an unbelievable meal with Proscuito Ham to start, lots of beef for main and chocolate desert, beer, wine and coffee for 13 pounds !!!

Then another 18 hours cross country to Bariloche in the Patagonia lake district. It had been snowing the day before we arrived and was bitterly cold was was ratehr a shock as we were intending fly-fishing / white water rafting which in reality seem rather unlikely (had been -15 C the night we arrived). We are staying in a really nice wooden refuge with a big open-fire and not a lot to do apart from relax. The place seems to be called a refuge as the doors do not have locks and basically anyone can walk in at any time. Went for an amazing trek yesterday up a mountain to look at the lakes from above and then around some completely deserted lakes seeing lots of birds and great scenery.

Argentina seems to be having a few problems we are told with insufficient power for a cold winter. Having already lost the water in the morning due to frozen pipes, the entire town was thrown into darkness at 8pm just as we were about to order an extremely large fillet steak (restaurant had to close). The power cut lasted until 11.00am this morning, during which time we had no heating or hot water, but our kind Swiss host cooked us some pasta using a headtorch. Even though we have no reception in this particular area, the Blackberry has proved extremely useful as emergency equipment, with the light acting as a torch to guide us back to the refuge through the snow, and also as a watch / alarm clock as we didn´t bring anything with us. The wonders of modern technology !!!!!!!!!

Going snowboarding tomorrow, so fingers crossed. Hope to write again soon.

Holiday?
Is it a holiday or an endurance test? The weather's not too good here either, but it hasn't snowed yet! And we still have all the basic essentials - water, lighting and heating etc. Keep smiling xx
