Hello Day Four!

Today was a pretty short day compared to the rest, i would say. We left Tucumcari around 9am (a little later compared to the rest of the days). We drove through many towns that had nothing of interest to see, including: Montoya, Newirk, Cuervo. We pulled through the scuba capital of (i don't actually know of what): Santa Rosa, NM. There we saw the Cafe Club, and it was there we started on the pre- 1937 Route 66, north to Santa Fe. On the road towards Santa Fe, we passed through many other towns of no interest. Even though the towns didnt interest us, the ride up to Santa Fe was not at all boring! The long unending stretches of road weaved through beautiful landscapes and mountains of New Mexico. Many miles later we arrived in Santa Fe where we saw the Mission Church (not a route 66 landmark) but a really cool Adobe church. Down the Road we saw the Lorretto Chapel which has the flying staircase (also seen on Unsolved Mysteries). The Flying STaircase was the first of its kind- all made out of woods with no supports, its a spiral staircase built with no handrails (safety issues has effected the staircase by building handrails). After visiting the Lorretto Chapel, Dad and I walked around Santa Fe for a bit, there was a Spanish Festival going on. Getting back into the car we continued on the pre-1937 alignment south to Albuquerque. In Albuquerque, we drove around in downtown and saw the Kimo Theater. By that time we were getting pretty hungry, I looked in my book for a place to eat in Albuqueque, i saw the Route 66 Malt Shop, thats where we wanted to eat. We drove to the Malt shop, but it was CLOSED!! Darn it!! Well we still got out of the car and took pictures, then we noticed that there was a sign in the window saying "come on in, we're open" but then another sign in the door said "closed." Dad went to the door to try and see if they were open, and the door opened but no one was inside. CREEPY!!. Well we left the Malt Shop, but we were still hungry so i checked the book again and found the 66 Diner. We gave them a call and drove over to where they were located. Finally we are eating at a DINER!!! The building was not always a diner but actually a gas station on old Route 66. There Dad has a chocolate malt, and we both had a cheeseburger with fries (me) and chips (dad) and NO onions! . After the diner we went hotel shopping and are currently staying in the Hamptons for the night in West Albuquerque. Tomorrow we are headed for Holbrook,AZ home of the infamous Wigwam Motel. We called today for reservations but they said they were booked for tonight and tomorrow but to call in the morning because they sometimes receive cancellations. We are definitly going to call in the morning! If the Wigwam is booked we might continue on to Flagstaff and stay a day or two there. But we'll see.

I sure hope they have a cancellation for tomorrow night - that would be awesome. Either way, get some pictures! Maybe they would let you see the inside of one of the rooms just for a photo! Love you!

Staircase
No one(even me) can figure out how it was made and what makes it so strong. Don't even know what kind of wood!!Tell us about the weather. It,s super hot here. Your story telling is wonderful, got to make it into a book for your children. And the pics are so good too. Love you both.
