About to fly to London, and ItalyAbout to fly to London, and ItalyAbout to fly to London, and Italy

Here are Rachel, me, James, and Mary Donnan as we wait in line for our British Airways flight to London. From there we were to head on to Venice, thus beginning our Italy tour and study abroad. That was the plan. But how interesting things got once we made it across the pond...
This entry is likely to be short, for I have less than 20 minutes until my internet card runs out that I have paid for. At least I am trying to keep up this schedule of logging in regularly. The best news is, I have my luggage. It came on Thursday, and I was able to head out to the Galleria museum and to a ride or two on the water bus wearing fresh clothes. I had been on a new kind of Survivor reality show...this one against an airport baggage system, I suppose. We have seen several varieties of galleries and works of art, but in there I find notes I must take, and one night I sat with my granita (like italian ice, and so good here) and watched people in a square.

I talked with some fellow program participants, and they gave me more insight to seeing this project through in terms students experiencing it. Many are trying to speak Italian and to balance the joking around with it, and one person is making sure he can ask how much something is when the moment comes. I got to see the Rialto bridge a bit on
We're tired, but we're in Italy! We're tired, but we're in Italy! We're tired, but we're in Italy!

This is MD, me, and Isaac in the water taxi, speeding into Venice. Well, of course we're not driving...I think we would be far too tired to make sense of the waterways. I knew I didn't have my luggage at this point, so I was just pleased to be in Italy, and basically, thinking of ways to use the kit that the airline had given me. I had offers for extra clothes and all too, so I could smile a bit. It was quite the adventure from the start.
my own, I have had two different (and wonderful) kinds of pizza, and I am now looking into how Italians sing in various situations. It is my mini-ethnography. The writing is coming and going, but I feel as if the trip is just getting started. A big day tomorrow awaits...we must drag our luggage to the nearby train station, and from there, we go to Ravenna. There is much to look forward to, and much to remember of bella Venice, even if it did pour one day! We deal with any smells and the like too, but I think we are adapting well. I worked up the nerve to buy stamps from the tobacco shop, so I will attempt some postcards. They may get there after I am back, but oh well. I have a glass bracelet too, so that is one major souvenir one must have of this city.

I will see about trying to upload pictures. I do not have the cable and USB port thing I need, but wow, I have so many good pictures. Too many, really, for just the first city. But I cannot wait to share as many as I can post with

Anyone can appreciate walking into this square, and while I was luggage-less and still recovering from jet lag, I too felt the effects of seeing this square in all its glory. The pigeons were out, of course, but the bells tolled and the music from the little orchestra played. We went to St. Mark's, and we grew accustomed to the atmosphere only found here.
you (whenever that is). Ciao, and thanks for reading!

Truly something else. That and going up top to where you could touch the horses brought over (but these were not the originals taken in the plundering of other cities way back when).

The Bridge of Sighs

This was upon a canal filled with gondolas and their gondoliers. It was fun to just stand on the bridge and walkway area, taking in all the tourists and all those whom just wanted to see if any of the passing drivers actually sang. Apparently, that's extra.
