Alright, we are still in Cusco, we should have been on the road to Puno by now, but there are big strikes around Puno and Juliaca, and the roads are closed to both buses and train. Since they told us the movements are getting a little strong, we re playing it safe here until it clears up...

We have had an amazing last couple of days. We took at two night trip in the sacred inca valle, ending witht he machu pichu. At first, being stuck with a group did not please us so much... especially emilie, hungover cuz she drank in high altitude, never a good mix, however many coca leaves you chew after that... She missed a bit of the inca trail

and ruins of Pisaq, but caught up afterwards. We had a spaish speaking group and guide though, that was good. We met Manuel from Lima, like a grandfather figure with lill reassuring phrases like "you be careful in the bus" or "watch your step on the inca trail!". He will be our host in Lima for our last night. He has HOT WATER!!! Oh yeah!

We arrived at Ollantaytambo to visit the Temple of the Sun at sun set, beautiful windy place with many examples of the inca knowledge of astronomy, control of water, sun, architecture... It s still a mysery how they manage to drag huuuge blocks of rocks from 10km away up on the temple´s hill. Even with todays technology, it would be nearly impossible to do it. Ils sont fort ces incas. Ils avaient tout compris, eux.

We stayed there waititng for our train to Aguas Calientes, at the bottom of the Machu Pichu. We sat in a café owned by a British lady (very random place to hear a british accent and to eat an apple crumble with a cup of muña tea!!). She had lived 2 years in communities in the jungle, and

opened this café to send profit to kids organization. Very inspiring encounter. We met some frenchies there too, a group of 3 med students, Marion, Florent et Jeff (his real name is JEAN FRANCOIS!!!) very funny in a very french way. We convinced Marion to try coca leaves for her headache, which of coooourse worked. We tought med students something, how cool are we!

We arrived in Machu Pichu after an hour in a train (in the tourist compartment, where they are only gringos...a very weird feeling to see them all piled up together! but great for sharing travel tips and stories...). We had bought a pot of nuttella (which miraculously ended up in a store in peru), this made us very popular in the gringo train!!

We went to the Machu Pichu the next day on the first bus at 5:15, to see the sun rise. It is hard to tell in words how amazing it felt up there. Lots of shadows that rise from the ruins, dissapearing as the sun goes up. We had a bright blue sky and rested in the sun for hours breathing the tranquility even among tourists, appreciating all the energy this

place still has to offer. There is a huge sacredrock in the shape of the mountains behind it. People come to touch it, pray next to it, feel it.

At night we went to see live music with people we had met in Cusco, and randomly found our little french traveler Lilou again! It was awesome spenging two more nights in her crazy company...

Anyways...we must run see how the strike is progressing and hunt for survival food. Lac titicaca, we hope to see you soon...

Big BIsous to you alll

A mes randonneuses préférées
