I fly out to Vietnam in one week! I will be there two months. For those who have no idea what I am doing in Vietnam, a brief history:
I am in a Masters program for applied anthropology. Instead of a Master's thesis, we are required to do an internship over the summer between our two years and complete a project relating to the internship. I will be working with Counterpart International (a development NGO) on community-based tourism planning and development in the area outside of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in north-central Vietnam (Quang Binh Province). My job involves research and educational efforts to build community consensus for a local tourism business. I will also be traveling to other community-based tourism sites in Vietnam to check out their projects. I love anthropology!
Anyway, this blog is written for my friends and family who want to know what I'm doing and how I'm surviving, and for others who are interested in hearing about Vietnam and how tourism is developed in these out-of-the-way places. Right now, I have found close to zero on traveling to Phong Nha-Ke Bang, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Go to
PNKB for more info on Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. So I also hope to bring more attention to this passed over area of Vietnam.
I fly into Hanoi June 15.

I will miss you
I would like to comment on how proud I am of what you are doing. You do such great work in researching anything you do. I know you will be a big asset to the community you will be working with and they will greatly benefit from you helping them. Keep up the good work. Your father and I couldn't be prouder of you!!
