Lost in Altantis. For those of you who are unawares Santorini is the prime location theorized to be where Atlantis once was. After only 3 days here I must agree that the fantastic magic abound would prove this true. The famous black sand beaches welcomed my arrival complete with an awe inspiring swim. When entering the beach you find that for aprox. 20 feet its solid rock. A cliff of sorts. Then you swim out in the crystaline waters where you reach the drop-off of this underwater beast. The sea opens to depths of unimaginable beauty. No words here to describe it. I clensed myself of Ios in these waters then proceeded to bury myself in the black sand while onlookers laughed and in stared intrigue. I wish I had pictures but alas its difficult when buried.... in .... sand. The black pebbles were surprisingly soft and sweet but hot as hell and scalded my precious toes. I decided for an evening stroll for solitude and met some locals who offered free drinks, new accommodations (outside the youth hostel) and oddly enough a job offer. Greece is easy ladies and gentlemen. Want to spend a summer in paradise. Just show
up and you got it. I was escorted to my new private room set under the cliffs of ancient Theira. This is in the town of Perissa on the eastern side of Santorini. My God the beauty! With a private room, bathroom and balcony overlooking the ocean... All for 10euro a night! I almost cried in joy. Hostels are great meeting places but damn the lack of privacy and comprising on sleep. With a new hope for this Atlantian paradise I felt the smooth calm of reflection and peace. I wandered to a secluded rooftop wheras I lay among the endless stars and had my first cry of the trip. A good healthy cry. One that incorporated appreciation and a bit of sadness. I wished I had some of you here with me for this experience as my pictures and words do no justice. That and Santorini is a prime place for lovers, honeymooners and couples. I wanted to be held, kissed, loved and wanted someone to smile warmly at under those amazing stars and say simple things like "I love you." So I told myself I loved myself, laughed at myself and headed back to the hostel to meet
friends.
The next day I awoke too early, moved to my private mansion... Took off for the day with kids from the hostel for a tour of the surrounding islands. We conqured the massive volcano outside Santorini where I tried my first attempt at flying, failed due to the windy conditions then embraced my humanity, tucked my wings neatly and cruised to the warm mud springs. Disgusting springs, I'm convinced these are just for tourists. The springs smelled of sewer and stained everything shitbrown. Ha! On to a 400 foot climb for a spectacular view of Greece. You could opt for a donkey but I refused for many reasons. I enjoyed watching the asses scale the treacherous cliffs though. I'm talking about the tourists here. Eat grilled octopus with a side of exhaustion and on to Oia.
People all over the world pay hommage to the sunset in Oia. World renowned. I grab an ideal spot hours before for the sunset as this could be a highlight of my entire trip. Witness the sunset set admist hundreds of others. What can I say, a beautiful sunset. Life Changing??? It was a beautiful sunset. I was tired. so 12
hours after my journey began I made my way back to my paradise of a private room. Sleep like god granted it so.
Weds. Start my detox. With my Ios cough worsening I decide on a new health regimen. Jog in morning, bathe in ocean, sun on beach. Start job at night. So I took the job and found my new home for awhile. I work at an appropriately named bar called "Full Moon" This place is decked out with Native American relics, cowboys, Jack Daniel bottles and 3 lovely gents who run the place. The gents are all the workout type with badass tattos. I'm the new server. I dance to fun house music and end the night with a Bon Jovi song. Feel quite at home thousands of miles from famariarity. I made friends with Jason, the doorman from Chicago who in every way reminds me of Andre. A young chap about 30, fitness nut like me and tends to take care of me. After discovering my cough, buys me soup and medicine then escorts me home for my safety. He's the big bouncer type but gentle as a teddy bear.
Wake Thursday to another lovely

Not too bad eh? jog and Jason takes me to Fira. The hub of Santorini action. He treats me to my first gyro in Greece and we raid the pastry counter convincing each other we can work it off tomorrow. I find that more and more I fall in love with this place. My new home sits under the cliffs of an ancient village, over the black sand paradise, with amazing people... Why not spend the summer here???
Just so all of you know the reality of a summer in Greece is really feasible and a wonderful way to spend the season. I want to add that I made 30 euro for my 7 hour night of work. Thats more than most jobs here. Thats aprox. 20 dollars a night. Understand the cost of living is nothing, food is cheap and in no way am I starving or in need. This opportunity, as humbling as it is, has taught me how excessive life is back home. I live in paradise, like a queen, with every basic and indulgent need satisfied. All on 20 dollars a day!!! Yes my lovely's. Life really can be that easy.
Always learning
