Hi there from South China. Said farewell to a lovley Canadian girl called Carol that Stefano and I meet in LaungPrabrang and travelled a week with. After a week with us she has decided to change her travel plans of heading to Indonesia and is now meeting us in Chendu in 2 weeks and continuing to Central Asia for that leg of the trip. So instead of travelling alone, I am still travelling with Stef the Italian and soon to join again with Carol. Anyhow, since leaving Thailand 2 weeks ago, we made a very hurried trip thru Laos stopping only at Vang Vieng and Laung Prabang and swimming in the rivers and waterfalls there. After there we bussed up to Maung Sing in the north of Lao and rode motorbikes to visit tribal people still living in scattered villages as they have done for hundreds of years. They hunt and live off rice and what they grow in their little patch of dirt. The women are all topless and are very natural about this. WE were invited to shelter from rain in a small hut with a family of 7 and drank tea and the local brew laolao. A very potent disgusting liquor. We then drove to the Lao China border, a remote one where only locals can cross, and played volleyball in the rain with the guards.

After a sad farewell to Carol, Stef and I got the bus to the border and travelled 6 hours to this modern Chinese city of Jinghong. I had been here 8 years ago and the change is incredible. We slept in a hotel attached to the College and all the teenagers are now carrying mobiles, dressed in very modern western clothes and it is a relieve to find a few even speak English now. Previous trips to China were a nightmare to find your way around. Just bought bus tickets for the 16hr ride to Dali a lake north of here, and at the station the info woman was very helpful with her English. So now that money is easy to get thru the Atms and english is spoken travelling here has taken a whole new dimension. BUt, the buggers still smoke everywhere including next to me now in the internet cafe and they still spit....Thank god the food is great. Had a great BBQ at the nightmarket last night. Porkfillet, a whole chicken, 16 beef and pork kebabs, new spuds on sticks and 2 big beers each. There were 4 of us and the bill was an amazing NZ $12. We all nearly fell off the chairs.

Will end this Blog as the bus is leaving soon and need to buy food and water for the trip. Tried downloading photos but this site is so slow that Ill have to find another way to do so. So till later, love fromKay and please, thanks to Toni and Danny for the message, but Id also love to hear back from some more freinds xxxxxx

Robert is in Afgan, as you know, and is expecting to see you at some stage over the next few months. Apart from that all is the same here - Enjoy getting your blogs - Keep Safe. Chris x
