Let's see, what have I done this week. I took another week of class, tough but I make tiny strides every day. Which gives me confidence. I had a conversation on the bus the other day with a 65 year old guy that didn't know any english. Granted I only understood about 15% of what he said, I did understand some of it. And by the look of his expresses I was answering some of his question correctly. So I guess these classes are doing something for me. We'll see where I'm at in a couple weeks. I took a nice walk around Recoleta. One of the nice barrios (neighborhood) of B.A. It has the famous above ground cemetery that has most of the famous people in Argentina's history, like Evita. Funny thing, at the front gate there is a lady selling maps to the cemetery to help raise money. Well, she pegged that I spoke English. I had heard about this lady and was excited to meet her. She speaks english very well, but speaks english like an 18th century london chimney sweep. Like she had learned english when auditioning for a spot in merry popins....Random! But the cemetery
is pretty cool. Reminded me of the ones in New Orleans. I got to walk around the cemetery for a while and at one point didn't see anyone else for about a half hour. You could feel the importance of the place. What else? We had a small going away party for my first group of people I had gotten in with at our school. Even though it has only been 2 weeks, this was a cool group of people I had connected with. They are off to other parts of the world and I'm already on to meeting new people. Met a group of locals at one of the clubs I went to this week. The club was three stories and had thousands of people there. A lot of them in suits as most of the people head straight to some kind of social event after work. I don't know how they can be productive in the mornings... But anyway, I ended up hanging out with this group of portenos(people from B.A.) and driving around the city. Spoke completely in my broken spanglish, they could speak some english but I really didn't want to speak english. The people drive
La Escuela
My felow students and teachers at school. My teacher is in the green sweater. Check how flossy my shoes are in the flash!!! like maniacs here. They would definitely get shot if they drove on LA freeways like they do here. Lanes, stoplights, turn signals, safety, none of that applies here; especially for the cab drivers. I purchased my flights to Chile and Bariloche today to go snowboarding. I can't wait for the season to start. So excited for some southern hemi snowboarding in the Andes! I'm also thinking of going to Uruguay next weekend. I've heard there are some mellow beach towns(yeah it's winter here) there that are really nice. Plus it will be nice to get out of the city for a couple days. Speaking of winter, they had the coldest day of the year last monday. The wind chill factor was -3 Celsius and the small factoid of the day was it was actually warmer in Antarctica(-1) then it was in B.A. But honestly it wasn't that cold, the people here don't handle the cold very well. I was walking around in shorts today and people were giving me looks like I was crazy. Anyway, that's about everything. The photos can tell the rest. Miss you all. Saludos!
