The hotel is the shape of a Pyramid and had a light beam coming out of the top.
So Las Vegas this week. We had a great time and in the tradition of things, came back down on money, a whole 25 cents!!! It was hard watching other people sat a tables playing…well for me anyway, I don’t think Vicky minded, but traveling on a budget meant there wasn’t really much room to go out and blow a load of money. That said, we still had a great time and I did get to use my 25 cents so I can say that I have gambled in Vegas.

Started off with a hellish 9 hour greyhound journey through some stunning scenery, particularly around Sonora where we saw deer at the side of the road but even if it is pretty outside, 9 hours isn’t fun. The bus driver was a pain in the arse too, everytime we stopped he’d say ‘back on the bus in 20 minutes’ and then turn up himself 15 mins late! We did eventually get to Vegas though at around 8.30pm and after a nice walk (we were soooo tired at the end) we got to the hotel at around 11.00pm. I think its safe to say we can look after money!!!

hotel was the Tropicana at the bottom (???) of the strip. We had the ‘MGM’, ‘Excalibur’ and ‘New York, New York’ around us and a Fatburger nearby too which proved useful and very tasty on the first night after our walk. The hotel was really nice and after getting a free upgrade we had an amazing view of the strip from our 16th floor room. The first night we stayed close to home (it was after 11.30 by the time we had eaten and it had been a long day!) so we just checked out the MGM and our own casino, both very nice, but ours was particularly 80’s in style! The first day there we had our first US buffet and definitely got our moneys worth, especially for desert (well me anyway) where they had cookies and whippy ice-cream. We saw a few of the hotels after that and then headed back to take advantage of our hotel’s pool which was really nice (one of the best on the strip apparently), it had waterfalls, Jacuzzis and a blackjack table so you could play while you swim.

That night we had another wander around some more hotels

The Mirage hotel’s volcano being the highlight and “TI’s” (formerly Treasure Island) pirate show being the lowlight despite the scantily clad sirens who managed to sink the pirates ship by singing at it, very annoying! We also suffered a horrendous rendition of ‘Proud to be an American’ backing the Bellagio fountains, it was very reminiscent of the ‘Hall of Presidents’ at Disney and definitely just as cheesy. Day two involved lunch at Denny’s, an American diner (think little chef!) which was very filling. I had bacon, sausage, omelet, hash browns and pancakes and it all counted as one meal on the menu!!! Then we had a look at the malls in Caesar’s Palace and the Venitian. In the latter you can take gondolas around the shopping part and casino, very bizarre to see but definitely very cool. We also saw the white tigers at the Mirage and the lions at the MGM (I think they said that they were 4th generation descendants from the original one that you see at the start of MGM films!!!).

I bet Seismologists wished all volcanos were so predictable!

On our last night we managed to get into the Coyote Ugly bar which was very cool, much smaller than

I bet Seismologists wished all volcanos were so predictable!I imagined but the décor was what I thought it would be. Vicky managed to get herself a free shot (see the picture in her blog if you haven’t already), it was for women only though so I missed out. After that we just had another wander and went to the Revolution Beatles bar in the Mirage which I think is also a night club before we watched the volcano erupt again with $1 frozen margaritas.

We had such a good couple of days, I think that we’ll definitely go back when we can better afford it, not that we didn’t have enough money though. There was so much to do without spending money and when we did spend, we didn’t have to spend much at all. It would have been such a shame to got there for such a short period of time and to have just sat at the tables and not seen anything, I think that we would have missed out on so much. The weather

was great if a little hot and it was nice to be out exploring again. I think I could definitely get used to this traveling lark.

Aaron out…

manners!!
Glad you're enjoying your travels. Don't like having to keep in thouch by keyboard, it's so impersonal, miss being able to just pick up the 'phone and talk to you. Anyway my comment is - it's rude to talk about money - you keep saying how cheap or expensive things are - you sound like a Yorkshireman not an affluent Cheshire lad!!!!Love to you both xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
