Amsterdam-tastic!

Easter 2007 was spent with my two pals Kate and Silvia! We decided a little trip to Amsterdam would be a perfect way to get away and do something different. We picked up some cheap tickets on SkyEurope whom now fly directly from Vienna (not ghastly Bratislava....yuck!) and the flights were amazingly on-time and pleasant for a budget airline! We'd decided against a hotel in favour of a more authentic stay in an apartment, we were pleased with our circa-1960s place, the novelty of the vertical stairs never failed to keep us on our toes! (seriously, apparently all the stairs are like this to save space).

Friday

Our first Friday evening task was to acquire beer! We sat and absorbed alcohol by a canal in the sun, I remembered our Dutch friend Karlijn saying she loved 'bitterballs' served in pubs (stop sniggering at the back!) So we tried them out and concluded that our tasty snack consisted of cheese and mushrooms fried in breadcrumbs. I have now been informed we are completely wrong, it's some weird processed beef derivative, yum....I will stick to our original description!

So from there we ventured forth with the Red

Light District in mind, purely for research reasons. Walking through the area reminded me of the tourist chaos of Leicester Square, not unappealing but not really reality either with neon signs, loud music, bustling crowds of camera toting non-locals! Once deep into the bowels of the RL district I admitted to feeling a bit awkward gawking at the 'ladies of the night' gyrating in their windows....I did overcome this, eventually, with a lot of practice. 😉 I'm glad my two companions were not fem-bots intent on pointing out the blatent sexism and seediness of it all, we took it for what it was. And then headed to a "Coffeehaus" and didn't have ANY coffee. Funny that.

Saturday

I started the day as HunterGatherer for my females, I plundered the local supermarket for breakfast trying to get low-fat this and very-healthy that girl food, I concluded zat vee like zee Dutch grocery shop; they meander around sipping free coffee and chillaxing - much nicer than the cannonball run of Billa. Saturday we were a little overwhelmed trying to fit a lot in and not knowing exactly how to do it, but we did a great canal cruise on a barge; we saw someone scattering ashes and noted all the wonky buildings which occur due to the unstable sediment base that Amsterdam is built upon.

Saturday avo we somehow ended up....in a pub! What a surprise! We chatted with the local barmen whom were intrigued by my attractive ladies and in a very direct-Dutch way enquired why none of us had ever been romantically linked! (did I mention we were back in the Red Light District? No? Oh...well...I missed a few windows so had to complete the set). After copious ciders we stumbled firstly into our trusty "Wok and Walk" and then decided to see our first LiveSexShow! 35.00Euros, hardly a bargain but we picked MoulinRouge which was BOUND to be a class joint. We were shown to our tiered cinema like seats with 20 others as three sets of women paraded about, performing a variety of...ahem....tricks, I never realised pens or ribbons could be used in such a way! Then the finale of the sex-show was....'athletic' is the best word I can think of! The four shows were repeated three times exactly the same in an hour before we felt we'd got our moneys worth, haha!

Sunday

I think we all wanted to explore Amsterdam a bit more on Sunday but we trooped off to a park in the sun to await a bus to the airport. It was a brief but highly entertaining trip with two fun gals!!

Hey! I am a Fem-bot aren't I? Wasn't I pointing out the blatant sexism and seediness of it all.....or perhaps those statements were overshadowed by my louder squeals of "Oh Snipe....look at that one...what's your thought on bright yellow latex?"
