Today's tour was of the Daintree forrest and Cape Tribulation. We started with a crocodile cruise along the Daintree River and saw 5 crocs ranging from a small yearling to some larger juveniles. We didn't see the dominant male ('Scarface') unfortunately but we did see two pretty kingfishers - the Forrest Kingfisher and the particularly striking Azure Kingfisher. After the cruise we drove up through the rainforrest and took a boardwalk, which again I really enjoyed. It is so enclosed and almost magical inside the rainforrest. My favourite plants are the umbrella ferns which are very cool. We made it as far as cape Tribulation but our visit was somewhat fleeting! We went to Mossman gorge in the afternoon. I declined the opportunity to swim - the "People have drowned here", "Strong currents" signs and pictures of people stuck under the water put me off! I prefered the walk through more forrest. There were lots of hanging vines - it felt very jungle like! The final stop on the tour was Port Douglas but we are staying here for two nights. It is a nice town and a good base to explore Cap Trib and also the outer Barrier Reef, which is supposed to be much better than the reef around Cairns.
We have had several reccommendations to try Coral Trout, which can only be fished for three months a year. We went to a rather swanky fish restaurant this evening, also reccommended by a chef, to taste it for ourselves and it was excellent. I had a trio of Coral Trout so I got to try it in three forms which was perfect. It was all very unbackpacker-like. It's the kind of place that puts the napkin on your lap for you. We don't scrub up too badly from a backpack, especially considering that this morning Shashi's hair straighteners ceased to work!! Horror of horrors! Shashi is still in denial. We are in the most humid region of our trip without the salvation of our straighteners! I feel whatever backpacker chic we were able to muster must surely be lost, especially as my rather glamourous new sunglasses from Coffs have also broken.

No straightners!!!
If you think this is humid wait until you get to Singapore. Your hair will be a fuzz!

Oh no!
My sincerest sympathies for the loss of Shashi's hair straighteners! You must be going thru hell! ;-) Keep having fun, just about to get a plane to Bangkok, but I have lots to tell you, so will email tomorrow! Jen xxx
