Hi Everyone! Its been a while since my last update, and I always forget what I just wrote- so hopefully Idon't repeat myself!
First of all- the teaching thing is going quite well- there are a few good stories I have, but I will save them for the end...
Let me start with my most recent adventures in Sydney. My friend Craig was in Australia for work (promoting Guelph as an exchange destination for Aussie students.) and was going to be in Sydney for his last weekend. We both arranged so we would have our Friday's free and hilarity was soon to follow!
The Bridge Climb:
So, the Harbour Bridge is quite a magnificent marvel of engineering- so on Friday at 2:30, Craig, myself and Craig's cousing Marissa climbed it!!! Thats right, all the way to the top! It was hilarious for sooo many reasons
Reason #1- Our tour guide. His name is Matt and he was just funny, but not on purpose. We climbed for I think at least 2 hours, so he had to fill the time with random facts about Sydney, the bridge, whatever! I have never heard so much information about
Dee Dee in Sydney!
The bridge in the background is the bridge we climbed! metal. We did a group shot, and he posed us with jazz hands. 'Nuff said.
Reason #2- the two guys behind me (we were all strapped in to a rail that goes along the top.) were two blokes from Birmingham and kept cracking hilarious jokes. Maybe it wasn't that funny, but things said in an English accent seem funnier.
Reason #3- I was a bit scared, so I think I laughed more just out of nervousness which probably creeped out the rest of the climbing group.
Before we could go on the climb we had to suit up and go through a simulator (ie practicing climbing up and down stairs.) It was great! the view was outstanding and you really get to see how much Sydney is around the harbour. Its beautiful!
After the climb we went searching for a place to have dinner. We walked into a bar and I knew the bartender! Her name is Justine and she is the daughter of the woman I stayed with when I was in Wellington- what a coincidence eh?! Crazy!
We had plans of going out and checking out the Sydney night life, but we were
Boutique Hotel Lobby
The hotel was called "L'otel"- thats right, without an h... I don't get it.... exhausted and ended up just going home to hang out in our "boutique" hotel. If you are curious as to what a boutique hotel is, its pretty much just a cramped hotel. Check out the photo of the "lobby." its juts a hallway!!! Our room was also quite compact, but still comfy.
The next day was jam-packed. We went to the Paddington Market, Hyde Park, The Royal Botanical Gardens and the Opera House. (Were we ran into Dee Dee Doodle!) We hopped onto a ferry to Manly and took off for the day. Manly is part of Sydney with a wicked beach. It was a great day on the beach, not too sunny. We had dinner with a view of the ocean and a fountain that comes out of the ground. It was entertaining through and through.
Oh! On the Ferry I got a phone call from back home!!! Thats right- Robin, Hava and Brittany (some women that I worked with on Residence Life Staff) called me to say hi! It totally made my day and made me sad because I totally miss them, and the RLS banquet was that night. To anyone who went: Hope it was
Package from home!
Thanks Corinna, Heidi, Adro, Jen and Abhi!!! notice the new unlearn shirt!!! fun!!! Congrats on a great year 😊
After dinner we hopped back on the ferry to go to....THE OPERA!!! Thats right, we went to the opera. We did NOT have a change of clothes, so we went in our beach gear which was hilarious. I thought we were really underdressed until I saw some dude in a Canadian Tuxedo (jeans and a jean shirt) and I knew right then that we were okay. The opera house is just as cool inside as it is outside. The show was called "A night at the opera" and featured a choir, a symphony and four soloists. It was a review of 5-6 different composters including Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, Bizet among some others. It was great, because a lot of the songs were recognizable and it didn't have a lot of the boring in-between-songs-stuff that operas sometimes have.
Again, after the opera we had thought about going out, but just went back to the hotel and crashed. I think we might be getting old! That was it- Craig left the next day and I came back to Wollongong and rested. So exciting!
I received my second care package!!! Heidi rallied a few people and sent me some delightful messages and presents!!! Thanks yall!
So, the countdown is on for my Melbourne road trip. We leave this Friday bright and early. I am so pumped- hopefully everything goes according to plan!!!
Okay, you have been waiting patiently for the stories from my Drama class
So I have a student, lets call him "Mark"- and today while I was giving instructions he wasn't paying attention. So, I pulled out the classic teacher/mom line "Mark, what did I just say?!" to which he instantly responded "Lap dances are better when the stripper is crying." I was shocked that a) he said this and b) his response was so quick! I had no idea what to do and was stunned.
Also, we did our debates in English today which was hilarious because the students are taking everything very personally. Today the topic was "The driving age should be lower" and it was like they were defending their personal honour- good times! Can't wait for the "boys are better than girls" debate!
Thats it from me!!! have an awesome Easter everyone! I will be away for a while and will probably not have access to the interweb, so be patient for a response!
Miss you sooo much!!!
Love
Adam

Dee dee's a fake!
For everyone who might be a fool like me...you might want to note that Dee Dee is a doll..not a real person. Just thought I'd spread the word. I was fooled.
