There wasn’t much on the schedule today for Nicole and I, so I decided to sleep. I think I got up around 8. I am losing track of time here since I don’t have a watch with me and most of the hotel clocks are terribly wrong. I got my shower and all that and then did some Sudoku puzzles until about eleven. I went downstairs and found Nicole on the computer. We watched the last half of some Indian (India Indian) movie called “Sanjay.” It was soooo funny. It wasn’t supposed to be, but there were several horribly done action sequences and random breaking out into song and dance. The good guys won.

During the movie Paul Maresca showed up rather unexpectedly, introduced himself, and then went to look around town. That isn’t really an option for women of our caliber so we went to lunch, fried chicken with rice for me, and then parted ways to do some more loafing. I channel flipped for a few minutes and then did some Sudoku until Dad et al showed up. Paul, Dad, Nicole, and I sat outside the restaurant drinking various drinks and talking. Paul seems to be quite the avid outdoorsman. There will eventually be an expedition to the jungle where a group will parachute in. Paul got his license so that he can join them. He is an EMT from New York. Oh, Dr. Becky and Nicole are from Virginia. We sat there until dinnertime and went inside to eat. Muscle, a gentleman from Guyana, arrived to take Nicole and Paul grocery shopping. They, including Muscle as their driver and Dr. Becky, are driving into the Pakaraima Mountains tomorrow to do some medical screening in the more remote villages. While we are staying in our luxurious rooms at the Windjammer, they will be sleeping in tents, driving unimaginable “roads,” and providing healthcare in areas thought to be unreachable.

Dad and I ate dinner and had Nicole’s and Paul’s meals boxed to go. We watched some TV in our room until Paul and Nicole returned for their dinner and we all went outside to see the solar eclipse. I thought it was really interesting to see an eclipse while we were in Guyana, but I don’t know what makes it any better than seeing one at home. We said goodnight and went back to our room. Dad and I were watching the movie “The Marine,” an American movie, and were about 3 minutes or so from the very intense ending when all the power in our area went out. I was so upset, but alas it came back on in time to see the last thirty seconds. The good guys won again.
